Coterra Energy Inc. appointed Thomas E. Jorden chairman of the company's board of directors effective Jan. 1, 2023, Coterra announced in a press release on Nov. 2.
Jorden, who currently serves as president and CEO of the company, will succeed Dan O. Dinges upon the expiration of his executive chairman term on Dec. 31, 2022. Dinges will remain on the board as the chair of the executive committee.
Additionally, Robert Boswell will take on the role of lead independent director to succeed Lisa Stewart, also effective Jan. 1, 2023.
"I want to thank Dan for his leadership and compliment him on building a great organization with premier assets over the last two decades," Jorden commented in the release. "I am also looking forward to working closely with Bob as lead independent director, drawing on his boardroom and upstream oil and gas experience to move Coterra forward."
Jorden stepped into the role of CEO in October 2021 during the merger between Coterra and Cimarex, having previously served as CEO and president of Cimarex since 2011 and board chairman since 2012. Prior to that role, he served as executive vice president of exploration at Cimarex when it was founded in 2002.
Before Cimarex, Jorden joined the company's predecessor, Key Production Co. Inc., as chief geophysicist in 1993, later becoming executive vice president of exploration and multiple other leadership roles.
Boswell has been a director at Coterra since 2015, currently serving on the board's Executive, Audit and Environment, Health & Safety committees. Outside of Coterra, he currently serves as CEO and board chairman of Colorado E&P company Laramie Energy LLC.
Dinges served as Cimarex's chairman, president and CEO from May 2002 until the merger with Coterra completed in October 2021. Prior to this, he joined the company as president and COO in September 2001 after leaving a 20-year career with Noble Energy Inc.
"I want to express my appreciation to the board, to the management team and to all of our employees for their collective efforts this past year in setting Coterra on the path to success," Dinges said in the release. "I am grateful for the experience. I know under Tom's leadership, the company will continue to be an industry leader."
