Australia’s Entek Energy Ltd. provided an update on its operations in the Niobrara oil resource play on Sept. 10.

The State 15-8 well was spudded Sept. 8 on the Battle Mountain, Wyo., area of mutual interest. The vertical test well’s target depth is about 8,100 feet, and it is targeting the formations below the Niobrara within interpreted structural closure.

A completion will be attempted in the McKee 5-16 well. The well did not reach total depth, but the completion will be attempted through perforating the liner at the toe where shows were seen.

The operator is still reviewing all forward options for the Cobb 12-7 well, Entek said.

The FRU 12-1 well in the Focus Ranch unit was successfully perforated and propellant-treated. Inflow rates confirmed that additional connection to the reservoir was made. The well is now set up for long-term production testing.

FRU-12 still flows with gas rates too high for efficient pumping of fluids, so a packer and tubing were placed above the top perforations, the company said.

At this stage, the well is naturally flowing at around 1.5 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas. The initial expected rate was about 10MMcf/d after the propellant treatment. It is flowing 100 barrels (bbl) of water and 10bbl/d of oil. The oil-to-water ratio has improved.
