Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Houston-based ExxonMobil has commenced drilling operations on its next exploration well in offshore Guyana’s Stabroek Block, where the Liza oil discovery was made and confirmed with appraisal well #2-Liza. Appraisal drilling and testing now indicate that the discovery’s estimated recoverable resource is between 800 MMbbl and 1.4 Bbbl of oil. A drillship has been mobilized to the Skipjack prospect in the northwestern part of the block. According to the company, Skipjack is potentially larger than Liza and is almost identical to the Upper Cretaceous Liza, but bigger in size and aerial extent. ExxonMobil is also planning more exploration and drilling in the Stabroek Block in the Guyana-Suriname Basin at the Jurassic-aged Ranger and the Cretaceous Payara prospects, which are expected to be drilled in late 2016. ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek Block and wells with 45% interest in partnership with Hess Corp. holding 30%, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation, with 25%.
