Houston-based Beacon Offshore Energy has permitted the first exploratory test on the company’s Monarch prospect in Green Canyon Block 943 (OCS G36060). The #1 OCS G36061 will be in the eastern half of the block with a planned bottomhole to the east in Green Canyon Block 944. Water depth in the area is 5,375 ft. Green Canyon Block 988 (OCS G35417) to the south is also part of the Monarch prospect. According to IHS Markit, production in this part of the deepwater Gulf comes from numerous Occidental Petroleum-operated fields, the nearest of which is Heidelberg, 10 miles to the northeast. Occidental also owns the producing Ticonderoga, Constitution and Caesar/Tonga fields.
