Beetaloo Basin Exploratory Hits 500 m Section Of Shale Gas
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Denver-based Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd completed vertical exploration well #1-S Kalala in Beetaloo Basin permit EP98, Northern Territory. The venture encountered a thick Middle Velkerri source rock sequence with a gross interval of more than 500 m of shale gas with net pay exceeding 150 m. Elevated gas shows were recorded indicating moveable hydrocarbons. There were also several prominent, sandy/silty 50 m to 80 m reservoir sections with gas saturated and quartz-rich source rocks. The well will be cased and suspended. About 25 km to the west, Falcon is under way at #1-NW Amungee in exploration permit 98, which is targeting Middle Velkerri to assess hydrocarbon saturation and reservoir quality and the planned depth is 2700m. The #1-NW Amungee is operated by partner Origin Resources Ltd (35%), Sasol Ltd (35%) and Falcon (30%). Falcon retains a 30% interest in 4.6 million gross acres of the Beetaloo Basin.
