Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Houston-based Castex Energy Inc. has spudded a Louisiana state waters test in St. Mary Parish. The #2 State Lease 20369 is in Atchafalaya Bay Field and the proposed depth is 19,400 ft. Water in the area is eight ft. deep. In addition to testing known field pays, the venture will also test deeper exploratory reserve potential. The cluster of wells in the area is known as the Marathon development. Directly to the southwest are two Castex wells, #1 State Lease 20369 and a northwest offset, #1 State Lease 20221. The #1 State Lease 20369 was drilled to 21,160 ft. and was tested flowing 10.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 88 bbl. of 41-degree-gravity crude from Cibicides opima (Middle Miocene) at 18,080-18,160 ft. In mid-2012, #1 State Lease 20221, flowed 15.2 million cu. ft. of gas, 122 bbl. of 40-degree-gravity crude and 20 bbl. of water per day, also from the Cibicides opima (Middle Miocene) at 18,194-18,314 ft.
