Description

Beach Energy Ltd. announced results from one of five planned appraisal wells in South Australia's Cooper Basin PEL 91 permit area. The #3-Chiton was drilled to appraise the northern extent of Chiton Field. The venture hit 3.5 meters of oil in Namur Sandstone and an additional 3 meters of oil in the McKinlay member. The well will be cased and suspended as a future producer. At three nearby appraisal wells, #2-Chiton was drilled to 1,718 meters and hit a 5.5 meter oil column in Namur sandstone; #1-Chiton (southeast and down dip from #2-Chiton) hit Namur sandstone and had an estimated flowrate of about 2,434 bbl. of oil per day and #11-Bauer intersected a 10 meter gross column including 6 meters in Namur Sandstone. Both #2-Chiton and #11-Bauer were cased and suspended as a future oil producers. Other planned appraisal wells in PEL-91 are #12-Bauer, #8-Bauer and #13-Bauer. Adelaide, South Australia-based Beach Energy is the operator and holds 40% interest and Drillsearch Energy Ltd. owns 60% interest.
