Cooper-Eromanga Basin Oil Discovery At Tookoonooka Block in Australia
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
In Queensland, Australia, a Bengal Energy Ltd. oil discovery was announced on the Tookoonooka Block (ATP732) in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin. The #1-Caracal produced an unreported amount of light oil on a new and unexplored trend in the 2.64-million-sq.-kilometer permit area. According to the company, seismic mapping defines a large structure, with #1-Caracal closure alone estimated to cover an area of 14,245 sq. kilometers. Bengal recovered free oil on a swab test from the vertical discovery that was commingled across two different Wyandra sands. Additional testing is planned to analyze the reservoir characteristics. According to the Calgary-based company, preliminary core analysis suggests that the Wyandra permeability at #1-Caracal is similar to the Viking and Cardium plays in western Canada, and horizontal multistage fracturing could be effective.
