Equinor Adds Block To Exploration Plan In Offshore Walker Ridge
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Stavanger-based Equinor has added a block to a deepwater Gulf of Mexico drilling plan that it initially submitted four years ago. According to a new exploration plan, the company intends to drill up to four tests from various surface locations on Walker Ridge Block 272 (OCS G35081) and Walker Ridge Block 316 (OCS G36084). The initial drilling plan for the prospect included Block 272 and Block 271 (OCS G35080) to the west. In 2015, the area was known as the two-block Monument prospect. Equinor filed the Monument exploration plan in mid-2015. Walker Ridge Block 271 was the most expensive parcel sold at the March 2013 lease sale — a partnership of Equinor (then Statoil) and Samson Offshore acquired the lease for $81.8 million.
