Woolsey Operating Co., according to IHS Markit, has won approval from Illinois regulators to drill the state’s first hydraulically fractured horizontal shale well. In Section 31-4s-8e of White County, #1H-310408-1 Woodrow will target gas pays in Grassy Creek (New Albany Shale). It has a planned true vertical depth of 5,280 ft and the proposed bottomhole was not reported. Offsetting Woolsey’s planned horizontal test is a 1978 wildcat—#1 Lola Young was abandoned 3,621 ft in St. Louis. Nearby production is to the east in Springerton South Field, which was opened in 1977. The wells in the reservoir produce crude from several Mississippian pays, with most of the production coming from Aux Vases at 3,325 ft. The deepest pay in the field from Ullin is at 4,385 ft. Woolsey’s headquarters are in Wichita, Kan.
