Description

Murphy Oil Corp. has started work on a deepwater appraisal test of the Samurai discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. The #2 OCS G32504 is in the south-central portion of Green Canyon Block 432. Water depth in the area is 3,470 ft. According to a previously filed exploration plan, the proposed total depth is 32,500 ft. The Samurai discovery was drilled by Anadarko Petroleum in 2009: #1 OCS G32504 encountered 120 ft of pay in Miocene sands and it was drilled to 31,716 ft. The Block 432 lease is currently operated by Murphy (41.67%) with Samson Offshore (33.33%) and Anadarko (25%) also holding stakes in the lease. According to IHS Markit, the Samurai prospect, which also includes Block 476 (OCS G32510), holds a mean, gross resource potential of 75 MMboe. The area has a resource upside potential of 200 MMboe, according to the company. Murphy is based in El Dorado, Ark.
