Offshore Norway Discovery By Aker in PL 869
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Aker BP completed a wildcat and an appraisal well in offshore Norway production license PL 869.The objective of wildcat #24/9-14 S was to prove petroleum and the reservoir potential in reservoir rocks (injectites) in Eocene (Intra Hordaland group sandstones). The objective of the appraisal well #24/9-14 A was to investigate the lateral extent, as well as the reservoir potential of the injectites. Wildcat #24/9-14 S encountered a total gas column of 30 m, and a total oil column of 38 m in the Hordaland group in sandstone layers (injectites) totaling 35 m, mainly with very good to excellent reservoir properties. The sandstones are interpreted as being remobilized sand from the Heimdal and Hermod formations in the Paleocene which are injected into the overlying Hordaland group. The gas/oil contact was observed in the well. The oil/water contact was not observed. Horizontal appraisal well #24/9-14 A encountered several gas-bearing and oil-bearing injectite zones totaling 540 m, with many sandstone layers with variable reservoir properties, mainly from good to excellent. The sandstone layers are interpreted as being injected sands in the Hordaland group with variable quality and thickness. The gas/oil and oil/water contacts are as in the wildcat well. Preliminary estimates place the size of the discovery between 350 – 750 MMcf of recoverable oil equivalents. The wells were not formation-tested, but extensive volumes of data have been acquired and samples have been taken. These are the first and second exploration wells in production license 869. The #24/9-14 S was drilled to 2,097 m and was terminated in Sele in the Paleocene. The #24/9-14 A was drilled horizontally in the Hordaland group in the Eocene to 4,398 m. Area water depth is 120 m. The wells have been permanently plugged and abandoned. Aker’s headquarters are in Oslo.
