Pioneer Oil Co. has started drilling a Silurian exploratory test in Clay County, Ind. According to IHS Markit, the wildcat, #1 Cashman-Smith-Comm, is in Section 13-9n-7w with a proposed total depth of 2,000 ft. Several wildcats have been drilled in Section 13. The deepest test, #1 West Pauline, was drilled in 1983 to 1,723 ft in Devonian, and some gas shows were reported at 1,605-15 ft. Deeper Silurian exploration is within 4 miles to the southwest. The 1#1 Worth in Section 35-9n-7w was drilled in 1955 to 2,003 ft and it hit oil shows in Devonian at 1,796-98 ft. Pioneer’s headquarters are in Vincennes, Ind.
