Walter Oil & Gas has permitted the first of several planned tests designed to increase production in the company’s Coelacanth Field. The #2 OCS G35960 will be in the western half of Ewing Bank Block 878, with a planned bottomhole to the northwest beneath Ewing Bank Block 833. According to a development plan filed in 2020, up to five tests will be drilled from various surface locations in the western half of Ewing Bank Block 878, with bottom-hole locations to the north beneath Block 833 and Block 834 (OCS G27982). Water depth in the area is 1,500 ft. Walter’s activity in this part of the Gulf of Mexico centers around its Coelacanth platform on Block 834. Wells drilled from the A platform yield crude from perforations in the Miocene at around 20,000-23,000 ft. Walter’s headquarters are in Houston.
