Blackhorn USA LLC, according to IHS Markit, has scheduled a western Kentucky wildcat in Muhlenberg County. The #1 David Leon Baskin & Connie Knight has a planned total depth of 4,200 ft and is targeting Silurian oil. The Illinois Basin venture will be in Section 16-K-30e and is the first-ever wildcat permitted by the Katy, Texas-based company. Nearby drilling is to the southeast at #1 William M. Eaves, a 2,311-ft Lower Renault wildcat abandoned in 1965 and is one of the deepest tests drilled in the area. Production in this part of the state is 8 miles to the south in Bevier Field, a Muhlenberg County reservoir opened in 1975. Wells in the field yield oil and gas from pays in Mississippian and Devonian. The most recent venture drilled (2019) was Blackhawk’s #7 Ricky L. Whitmer, which had an estimated depth of 3,999 ft.
