GGS-Spectrum announced that it has been awarded a five-month contract by SeaBird Exploration and Oil and National Gas Corporation of India (ONGC) for onboard seismic data processing offshore the west coast of India.


The onboard project is the first of its kind for GGS-Spectrum and is expected to finish in early spring 2008. The project involves the pre-processing of approximately 8,220 line miles (13,500 line km) of long-offset 2-D survey data on board Seabird’s Munin Explorer vessel.


David Rowlands, director of GGS-Spectrum commented, “Following our agreement with India’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons in July 2007 for data reprocessing in advance of the NELP VII licensing round, today’s announcement demonstrates our growing expertise in seismic data processing in the region. We are pleased to be a part of unlocking India’s considerable hydrocarbon potential.”


Added Andy Cuttell, GGS Spectrum group data processing manager, “Sub-basalt reflections are typical of west coast offshore India, making seismic acquisition and processing particularly challenging. GGS-Spectrum’s expertise using multiple attenuation techniques, prestack time migration and prestack depth migration means only the highest quality dataset will result.”
