In its annual awards program, OTC has acknowledged 13 companies that have launched 14 groundbreaking offshore E&P technologies. The Spotlight on New Technology Awards—a program for OTC exhibitors—showcase the latest and most advanced hardware and software technologies.
OTC sets forth the following criteria for selecting the winning technologies:
- New: The technology must have been offered to the marketplace in a ready-for-commercialization state less than two years prior to the application date;
- Innovative: The technology must be original, groundbreaking and capable of having a major impact on the offshore E&P industry;
- Proven: The technology must be proven, either through full-scale application or successful prototype;
- Broad interest: The technology must interest and appeal to the industry; and
- Significant impact: The technology must provide significant benefits exceeding existing technologies.
For the sixth time, OTC has also recognized the innovative technologies being developed by small businesses with a Spotlight on Small Business Award. In addition to meeting the above criteria, a small business honoree must be independently owned and operated or a not-for-profit company with no more than 300 employees for the 12 months preceding the application deadline.
Dril-Quip Inc. has received an award for its Dril-Quip BADGeR Specialty Casing Connector, which reduces HSE risks by removing rig personnel from the red zone and lowering operating costs. Part of the e-Series family of products, the BADGeR features an automatic hands-free anti-rotation device that enables remote makeup operations, provides superior fatigue performance and integrates a metal seal reducing environmental risks.
Halliburton and TechnipFMC have received an award for the Odassea Subsea Fiber Optic Sensing Solution, which is the industry’s first subsea distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) tool capable of sensing both upper and lower completions with data quality and fidelity equivalent to existing dry-tree installations but independent of tieback distance, enabling both seismic imaging and reservoir diagnostic applications.
Halliburton has received an award for the DynaTrac Real-time Wireless Depth Correlation System, which increases efficiency during operations that require accurate bottomhole assembly (BHA) depth or position with on-demand positioning throughout operations. The DynaTrac system eliminates uncertainty in tool position without the need for wireline or work string manipulation while tracking movement of the BHA. Read more.
HYTORC has been recognized as a Small Business Award winner for its HYTORC J-Washer, a lock washer used to maintain joint integrity under dynamic conditions such as thermal cycling, rotating machinery and transportation. The J-Washer provides all the safety, quality and speed benefits of the standard HYTORC Reaction Washer and now offers the ability to lock fasteners tight.
INGU has been recognized as a Small Business Award winner for the introduction of Pipers 2.8, which gives offshore oil and gas operators insight into pipeline condition and performance. The self-serve, free-floating, micro multisensor solution works in operational conditions, delivering conditional-critical data related to leaks, deposits and wall condition. Pipers 2.8 improves planning, decision-making and operational control, while reducing the risk of failure.
Oil States Industries has been honored for its Merlin Deepsea Mineral Riser System, a robust, fast, hands-free riser system with remote monitoring that enables recovery of deepsea minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and supports the energy transition. Through partnerships, Oil States has become an integrator of complete mineral collection systems from harvester to vessel.
Oliden Technology has received recognition as a Small Business Award winner for its LWD LithoFusion tool, which delivers azimuthal density, neutron porosity and borehole images. High vertical resolution logs and imaging provide the best insights for quantitative fluid and mineralogy analysis, geological structures, borehole stability and well placement.
Rocsole Ltd. has received the Small Business Award for its Deposition In-Line Inspection (DILI) systems, which use a non-nuclear tomographic technology to inspect pipelines for deposition buildup thickness, type and location. This safe and non-invasive sensor works in various process environments allowing production to continue without interruption and enabling fast reporting of results with artificial intelligence/machine learning-based data processing.
Saipem has been honored for Hydrone–R, an underwater intervention drone (UID) capable of performing both inspection and intervention missions. It was conceived to offer life-of-field services with a focus on guaranteeing safety and productivity of offshore energy fields (oil, gas and renewables) while minimizing operational costs.
Schlumberger has won an award for DrillPlan, a coherent well construction planning solution that is a collaborative space providing automated end-to-end workflows, instantly validating engineering and delivering smarter designs faster. The discovery and consumption of offset knowledge empowers data-driven insights and accelerates the delivery of an efficient and optimal drilling program that is automatically generated in minutes.
Siemens has been recognized for its APM4O&G service. Using Siemens Energy's domain know-how, it delivers a diagnostic and decision-support solution for oil and gas equipment, enabling a step change in how offshore operators manage their assets. By continuously comparing real-time equipment operational data against models and running automated diagnostics, operators can forecast performance, preempt failures and conduct reliability-centered maintenance.
Siemens also won an award for MyFleetRisk, a data-driven, collaborative risk management platform that leverages real-world engineering expertise to quantify and visualize risk profiles of its oil and gas customers’ gas turbine fleets. Its transparent delivery of risk and criticality information empowers offshore operators with actionable insights, without the need for connectivity in a challenging environment.
Subsea 7 and autonomous Subsea 7 subsidiary Xodus Group have received an award for its Subsea 7 NESP – Nano Engineered Sensor Platform. The platform was developed in collaboration with Xodus to continuously monitor fatigue and corrosion offshore, reducing opex. The wireless nano-technology sensor requires no power supply/batteries, is zero-maintenance, scalable, and can extend life and improve uptime.
Techni has received recognition as a Small Business Award winner for PACT, a technology platform for autonomous, all-electric-based well control. The program has an extremely lightweight, low energy consuming drop-in-replacement actuation system. It comes with the fastest failsafe mechanism ever, and this technology will ensure safety in all modes of operation.
