AssetPlanner software is technically significant for three key reasons. First, the AssetPlanner software system seamlessly integrates all relevant data and planning parameters from several disciplines to quickly generate multiple development scenarios. Second, complex targeting and well planning tasks can now be automated. The software uses advanced automation techniques to generate drilling targets, complex well paths including multilaterals and sidetracks, and position platform or pads, saving considerable planning time. Third, AssetPlanner software employs a three-dimensional subsurface visualization environment that enables asset teams made up of many disciplines to “see” and plan in consideration of all the relevant data, parameters and constraints.
The technical attributes of Asset-Planner software translate to superior asset team performance. Engineers and asset teams can evaluate and model alternatives not possible in the past. They can generate and evaluate more development scenarios as well as quickly respond to risks or changes to scheduling or capital expenditure constraints. Significant potential economic gains are threefold: greater productivity with fewer people, fewer costly operational errors while drilling wells and better well placement to maximize reservoir drainage.
AssetPlanner software can accelerate new or mature field development planning from weeks or months to days or hours, particularly in high-cost complex or hazardous drilling environments such as deepwater development. Accurate planning can have significant impact in maximizing drainage from unconventional resources, including heavy oil, and can reduce costly nonproductive time.
