Iberdrola Group member Avangrid Inc. said it plans to invest $20 billion in U.S. electrical grid infrastructure through 2030, the company announced on March 12.

Iberdrola Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán and Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra met with U.S. policymakers this week at the CERAWeek by S&P Global conference, including U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Chair of the White House National Energy Dominance Council and U.S. Secretary of Interior Doug Bergum, to discuss the nation’s grid infrastructure needs, according to the press release.

The meeting centered on how growing energy demand requires a critical need to invest in energy infrastructure. The U.S. is a top investment destination, the release stated.

Avangrid has about $50 billion in assets across 23 U.S. states, the company said. Its eight electric and gas utilities in the northeast serve over 3.3 million customers.

The company also owns and operates about 10.5 gigawatts of electric generation capacity, capable of producing enough electricity to power over 3 million homes, the release said.
