Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank Plc, London, has acquired a 40% stake in private equity firm NGP Energy Capital Management for an undisclosed amount. NGP Energy provides capital and sponsors North American energy companies. Its assets include Natural Gas Partners, a family of eight private equity and two co-investment funds with total cumulative capital in excess of $3.2 billion, NGP Capital Resources Co., Houston, (Nasdaq: NGPC) a $261 million-fund formed to make loans to energy companies, and NGP Energy Technology Partners LP, a $148 million-fund organized to make growth capital investments for companies providing technology-related solutions to the oil and gas, power and alternative energy industries. Barclays Capital now has an asset in the North American energy capital management business. The transaction also gives NGP Energy an investor with a global presence.
