Black & Veatch has been selected to oversee two battery storage projects in Scotland and Northwest England that will store up to 200 megawatt-hours, according to a Feb. 10 press release.

Serving as the projects owner’s engineer and technical adviser, Black & Veatch will review and provide technical advice, construction monitoring and schedule tracking services.

The company will also oversee the projects’ development, design and construction.

In 2023, the U.K. government established emissions reductions goals in a plan to be net-zero by 2050, the release said.

The Prime Minister’s office declared that “the U.K. is home to abundant natural resources for renewable energy” amid the global push toward increased renewable power and grid resiliency, the release said.

“Integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) into utilities across the U.K. enhances grid resilience, optimizes plant performance, and promotes sustainable and cost-effective energy practices,” said Robbie Gibson, Black and Veatch’s associate vice president and director of renewables and grid solutions in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
