Bloom Energy and hydrocarbon producer Perenco have signed an agreement to install 2.5 MW of solid oxide fuel cells at Wytch Farm, the largest onshore oilfield in western Europe, in Dorset, England, the company said in a June 7 press release.
As per the companies’ agreement, the Bloom Energy Server platform will be installed at the site upon completion in late 2023 in support of Perenco’s baseload requirements. It will be the first deployment of Bloom fuel cell technology in the U.K.
“This is an important step that will demonstrate how our solid oxide fuel cell technology supports the resilience and sustainability goals of our energy-intensive clients,” said Tim Schweikert, senior managing director of international business development at Bloom Energy.
Bloom Energy is an energy transition company that, according to its website, works “with partners across the energy landscape to unlock rapid scale and develop solutions to the world’s most pressing energy challenges.”
Perenco is an independent hydrocarbon producer with a gross production of 500,000 boe/d of oil and gas.
