1 Anadarko Petroleum Corp., The Woodlands, Texas, plans a new wildcat in Lloyd Ridge 95 in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This will be the first of up to six wells on the company's Daredevil prospect. The #1 OCS-G-23463 will be drilled in the southwestern quadrant of Block 95 in 9,143 ft. of water. The prospect includes as many as three wells each in blocks 94 and 95. Block 95 is immediately southeast of the company's Atlas discovery in blocks 49 and 50, according to IHS Energy. The Atlas discovery, drilled to 19,828 ft., found 180 ft. of gross pay, some in thin-bedded reservoirs. The company abandoned another wildcat in Lloyd Ridge 47, about 12 miles west-northwest of the Daredevil well. That was the first of up to 15 tests planned for the company's Mondo prospect, which also included Block 91. 2 Laurel, Miss., independent S. Lavon Evans, completed a couple of Ordovician exploratory wells in Tuscaloosa County in northern Alabama. The wells are part of a deep exploration project in the Blue Creek coal-degasification field area. The company's #1 Earnest in Section 26-17s-9w tested 75,000 cu. ft. of gas a day with no liquids through acid-treated perforations between 5,410 and 5,442 ft. on a 20/64-in. choke. The company's #1 Champion International 3-10, about two miles south-southwest, flowed 30,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Ordovician between 4,960 and 5,050 ft. through a 14/64-in. choke after the company drilled to 7,530 ft. Surrounding production comes from coalbed-methane wells shallower than 2,000 ft. Last year, the company's #1 Alawest 34-13 discovery, more than a mile northwest of the Champion International well, tested at 590,000 cu. ft. of gas a day and recovered 11.44 million cu. ft. of gas and 547 bbl. of water as part of Wiley Dome Field during its first five months online. 3 Searching in little-explored territory, Jordan Development Co. LLC, Traverse City, Mich., took a permit for a remote wildcat on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which has no oil or gas production. The #7-22 Gould is in Section 22-42n-16w about four miles north-northwest of Manistique in Hiawatha Township, southern Schoolcraft County. The company will drill to the Cambrian Munising at 1,500 ft. on the Mid-Continent Rift. The wildcat is within a couple of miles of the only two wells drilled in the county. The #1 C.E. Christensen went to 557 ft. and found shows of oil and gas, while the #1 Alphonse Verschure was a 1,050-ft. dry hole with gas shows. Fewer than 20 wells have been drilled on the peninsula and half of those were in Chippewa County. None has produced, IHS Energy says. 4 A discovery by Savoy Energy LP, Traverse City, Mich., flowed gas at a rate of 1.02 million cu. ft. a day with 14 bbl. of condensate and one bbl. of water from fractured Ordovician St. Peter between 9,954 and 10,026 ft. The #1-8 USA & State-Big Creek is in Section 8-25n-2e, Big Creek Township, in southwestern Oscoda County, Mich., about five miles southwest of Mio. The discovery is about 1.25 miles northwest of an Ordovician gas/cozndensate discovery in Church Lake Field. There, the #1-16 USA-Big Creek tested for 1.78 million cu. ft. of gas, 22 bbl. of condensate and 66 bbl. of water a day from Glenwood and St. Peter between 9,981 and 10,081 ft. The well produced 1.2 billion cu. ft. of gas and 22,400 bbl. of condensate between November 1989 and June 1997. 5 MDM Energy Inc., Addison, Texas, plans a wildcat about four miles northwest of Montrose in southwestern Cumberland County, Ill. The #1 Gerald Vogt is in Section 16-9n-7e and is scheduled to Silurian at 4,200 ft. The closest production is 1.5 miles south-southwest in Lillyville North Field. That field produced 163,000 bbl. of oil from five wells in the Rosiclare, McClosky, Salem and Geneva. The remaining active well produces two bbl. of oil a day, according to IHS Energy. 6 Source Dynamics Inc., Batchtown, Ill., scored a couple of Silurian completions. Its #1-SD Oberlaender, in Section 10-2s-4w on the Buckhorn Ranch portion of Illinois State Park in Brown County, Ill., tested at more than 200 bbl. of oil and 50,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The well is approximately a mile from the nearest production and appears to be a new-field discovery, the company says. The company drilled a second well in the same section, the #4-SD Oberlaender, that flowed 100 bbl. of oil a day with no water after an acid treatment. 7 A new-field wildcat has been staked in Section 25-2s-6w in DuBois County, Ind., by Grayville, Ill., independent Petro Halogen Corp. The #1 Robert & Laura Lauderdale is to look for Warsaw gas at 1,800 ft. The nearest production is 1.3 miles east in Duff Field, which produces from Tar Springs. Huntingburg, Ind., is nearly five miles west. 8 Knox Energy Inc., New Albany, Ohio, has scheduled a wildcat to Trempealeau at 1,999 ft. in Foraker Quad in Hardin County, Ohio. The company's #1 Oglesbee is five miles north of Roundhead Field, a Trenton producer, and six miles west of Kenton, Ohio. 9 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, has mounted a wildcat campaign focused on Queenston gas in Section E, Reading Center Quad, Reading Township, in Schuyler County, N.Y. The company's #1 Affeldt is projected to 5,175 ft. about 2.5 miles northeast of an unnamed Black River Field and six miles south of Dundee. The #2 Affeldt will reach for 5,250 ft. about 2.2 miles northeast of the unnamed field and 5.9 miles south of Dundee. The third well, the #1 Kopp, is scheduled to 5,080 ft. some 3.2 miles east of the unnamed field and 5.7 miles west of the town of Burdett. 10 A 13,000-ft. Oriskany test has been scheduled by Great Lakes Energy Partners LLC, Hartville, Ohio, in Section 3, Bentley Creek Quad, Ridgebury Township, about six miles west-southwest of Sayre in Bradford County, Pa. The company's #1 Kieser Unit wildcat is approximately 2.5 miles west of a 1995 Oriskany discovery. 11 Great Lakes Energy Partners LLC, Yatesboro, Pa., plans to drill the #1 Daniel Bontrager wildcat to test formations through Medina at 5,600 ft. in Section C, Cochranton Quad, East Mead Township, in Crawford County, Pa. The proposed well is 1.6 miles northeast of Kantz Corners Field, which gets its production from Medina, and 5.1 miles north of Cochranton, Pa. In the same section, it plans to drill the #1 Hyland Unit to the same depth. That well is 1.3 miles southeast of Kantz Corners Field and 5.4 miles north of Cochranton, says IHS Energy. 12 A shallow gas well in Meade District, Adrian Quad, in Upshur County, W. Va., tested at 6.4 million cu. ft. of gas a gas for Bridgeport, W.Va., independent Mountain V Oil & Gas. The #1 Mike Ross drilled to 1,680 ft. and produced from an unstimulated open-hole section of the Squaw sand between 1,602-80 ft. The company drilled two offsets to the new well, the #2 Mike Ross and #3 Mike Ross, and completed both wells in the deeper Benson, Riley, Speechley, Fifth Sand and Gordon, but it hasn't released details on the newer wells, according to IHS Energy. 13 Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, has set up the #78 USS wildcat to evaluate Devonian gas at 6,000 ft. in Barkers Ridge District, Pineville Quad, in Wyoming County, W.Va. The new well is 1.7 miles west of an unnamed field that produces from Ravencliff and 2.8 miles southeast of the town of Pineville. 14 In Magoffin County, Ky., Salyersville, Ky., independent P&J Resources Inc. will drill two wildcats in David Quad in Magoffin County, Ky. Both wells will evaluated Big Six for gas production to 3,900 ft.
