1 Moon-Hines-Tigrett Operating Co., Ridgeland, Miss., tapped southeastern Pontotoc County, Miss., for a Mississippian Lewis sand producer with an initial potential of 500,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from 2,507-42 ft. The company tested its #1 Chapman 17-12 in Section 17-11s-4e on a 20/64-in. choke with 200 psi of flowing casing pressure. The well is 1.5 miles north-northeast of comparable production from Troy Field. The #1 B. Flaherty 29-2 in that field tested for 330,000 cu. ft. of gas and 36 bbl. of water a day. That 2,515-ft. well produced 152.18 million cu. ft. of gas and 5,475 bbl. of water between 1981 and 1985, according to IHS Inc.



2 Two Smackover tests are planned by Par Minerals Corp., Shreveport, La., as it drills near Jackson in Clarke County, Ala. It will drill #1 Lawco-McCorquodale 11-1 in irregular Section 11-7n-1w. That well is a mile northwest of the nearest well in Washington County, #1 Wilson Unit 30-12A that reached 12,600 ft. in Norphlet. The second wildcat is eight miles east-southeast of the first well in Section 30-7n-2e, and also in Clarke County. That well is #1 Lawco-Bumpers 30-7. It's about a half-mile east of the opener for Stave Creek Field, a Smackover pool. In that field, #1 McCorquodale 25-1 tested for 595 bbl. of oil and 216,000 cu. ft. of gas from perforations between 12,454-73 ft. Between 1979 and 1989, the well produced 1.44 million bbl. of oil, 457.77 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 513,758 bbl. of water.



3 Rainbow Oil & Gas Inc., Jonesville, Mich., staked a pair of wildcats to look for oil and gas in the Trenton-Black River group at 5,200 ft. in Jackson County, Mich. The company's #1-22 Wilson is in Section 22-1s-3w, Springport Township Drilling Unit. The location is 2.4 miles east of the town of Springport and 1.9 miles southwest of Springport Field, a Trenton pool. The #2-27 Wilson in Section 27 is 2.5 miles southeast of Springport and 2.2 miles south of Springport Field.



4 Effingham, Ill.-based Bill Nuxoll Inc. permitted its #1 Quast Jr., a Siluro-Devonian test about four miles southwest of Effingham in Effingham County, Ill., reports IHS Inc. The well, in Section 10-7n-5e, is scheduled to bottom at about 3,900 ft. Two undesignated discoveries lie about 1.5 miles away. One, #1 Decker Comm, showed an initial potential on pump of 174 bbl. of oil and 5,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from an openhole Geneva interval between 3,740-47 ft. Immediately northwest, #1 Barclay-Davis Comm tested 20 bbl. of oil and 70 bbl. of water a day from Devonian between 3,747-54 ft.



5 Eel American Energy LP, Graybill, Ind., plans a couple of 2,400-ft. wildcats to evaluate zones to Cambrian in eastern Miami County, Ind., on the western edge of the Indiana-Ohio Platform. The wells are about eight miles northwest of the town of Wabash in north-central Indiana and five miles from two abandoned fields, Peru East southwest and Rich Valley southeast. The wildcats are #1 J. Payne 21-1 and #2 J. Payne in Section 21-28n-5e about a half-mile southwest. Peru East Field produced 17,000 bbl. of oil from depths between 900 and 1,000 ft. before it was abandoned, and Rich Valley, an 11-well field, produced 18,000 bbl. of oil from Trenton in 18 years from a depth of about 900 ft. The Eel wells would be the county's deepest. The current record stands at 1,801 ft. for a dry hole eight miles northwest.



6 A shallow wildcat will look for Silurian gas about 2.8 miles south of New Middleton, Ind. Fort Worth, Texas, independent Quicksilver Resources Inc. will drill its #B4-35 Shaffer in Section 35-4s-4e in Harrison County in southern Indiana. The 1,050-ft. well is 1.2 miles north of Laconia Field, a New Albany producer.



7 Oxford Oil Co., Zanesville, Ohio, staked a pair of wildcats to look for Oriskany pay in Meigs County, Ohio. The #1 Donald Wootin will drill the 2,835-ft. test in Section 13, Vales Mills Quad, some six miles northeast of the town of Wilkesville and 1.4 miles west of an unnamed field that produces from Berea. The second wildcat, #1 Arlin Radekin, is in Lot 19 of the same quad. That well is 6.2 miles northeast of Wilkesville and 1.6 miles northwest of the unnamed field.



8 Chesapeake Appalachia LLC, a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp., will redrill a dry hole to 4,500 ft. to evaluate gas potential in Queenston Shale in Tompkins County, N.Y. The company will drill #1 (623514) Duddleston in Section I, Trumansburg Quad, Ulysses Township. The site is two miles southeast of Trumansburg and seven miles west-southwest of Lansing Field, an Oriskany pool. Chesapeake picked up the well in its purchase of Columbia Natural Resources. That company drilled the well to 7,322 ft., set casing and abandoned it in 1999.



9 Two companies have four wildcats in the works for Schuyler County, N.Y. Chesapeake Appalachia LLC plans to drill #1 (623838) Rumsey, a reentry of a Columbia Natural Resources well with the same name that was declared dry and abandoned after it was drilled to 7,974 ft. Chesapeake plans to redrill it to 5,000 ft. in Queenston Shale. The well is in Section E, Wayne Quad, Tyrone Township.

In the same county, EOG Resources Inc., Houston, will drill three wildcats, all to look for gas in Marcellus Shale at depths shallower than 2,900 ft. It will drill #2 Kopp to 2,100 ft. in Section E, Reading Center Quad, Reading Township, about 5.4 miles west of Burdett, N.Y. It plans #3 Kopp to 2,150 ft. in the same quad and township 5.6 miles northwest of Watkins Glen. The third well is #9 WGI, scheduled to 2,800 ft. in Section B, Beaver Dams Quad, Dix Township, about 5.2 miles southwest of Watkins Glen.



10 Two operators plan three wildcats in Crawford County, Pa., all looking for gas from the Medina/Queenston group. Cobra Resources LLC, Boardman, Ohio, will drill its #1 Weaver to 4,400 ft. in Section E, Linesville Quad, Conneaut Township, about 2.3 miles northwest of Linesville, Pa., and 1.3 miles southwest of the nearest Medina production in Conneaut Field. Energy Resources of America Inc., Canfield, Ohio, will drill the other two wildcats. The #1 McFadden Unit is in Section H, Townville Quad, Randolph Township, about 5.8 miles southwest of Townville. The company's #1 Heme Unit is in Section I, Blooming Valley Quad, Randolph Township, some 3.3 miles south of Blooming Valley.



11 Upper Devonian Shale will get a workout in Greene County, Pa., with two new exploratory wells in the works. Patriot Exploration Corp., Stahlstown, Pa., will drill #65-1 Jensen to 4,000 ft. in Section H, Mather Quad, Jefferson Township, 3.9 miles south of Jefferson and 1.6 miles southeast of Devonian production in Waynesburg Field. Atlas Resources Inc. Moon Township, Pa., will drill #21 Yost to 5,000 ft. in Section H, Garard's Fort Quad, Dunkard Township, about 8.7 miles north of Cassville, W.Va. The closest production is 1.1 miles east where Whitely Creek Field produces from Big Injun.



12 Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., Houston, will drill its #14397 DEPI to test Devonian Shale for gas in Mercer County, W.Va. The site is in Jumping Branch District, Athens Quad, seven miles northwest of Athens and 1.7 miles east of an unnamed field that produces from Lower Maxton.



13 Equitable Production Co., Pittsburgh, will drill to 5,199 ft. at its #V-536718 US Forest Service wildcat in a search for Devonian gas. The wildcat is in Lipps District, Coeburn Quad, in Wise County, Va. The well is 1.8 miles southwest of the town of Norton and 1.6 miles southeast of the nearest production in Roaring Fork Field, a Big Lime pool.



14 Interstate Natural Gas, Pikeville, Ky., plans a pair of wells from the same surface location in Floyd County in eastern Kentucky. The wells are #1 Harold Greene and #1T Harold Greene in Section 19-O-80e, Preston Quad, and reaching for Black River Shale to 3,999 ft. The wells are five miles west of Prestonburg and 1.8 miles south of Big Sandy Field, a major Devonian pool.



15 Two wildcats in the works for US Energy Partners Inc., Bowling Green, Ky., will evaluate Sunnybrook Sand to 1,500 ft. in Warren County in central Kentucky. The company's #1 Jimmy Wilson is in Section 3-G-40e, Smiths Grove Quad, 1.2 miles north of Smiths Grove and 1.4 miles west of an unnamed Corniferous field. The #1 Virginia Robertson is in Section 5-G-40e in the same quad. That well is 2.5 miles northwest of the town.



16 Atlas America Inc., Moon Township, Pa., received permits for a three-well program to look for Sequatchie gas in Section 6-5s-63e, Duncan Flats Quad, in Anderson County, Tenn. The company's #AD-1031 Charlie Taylor et al. will drill to 4,850 ft. 7.2 miles north of Oliver Springs and 2.3 miles east of an unnamed Monteagle field. The #AD-1035 Charlie Taylor et al. is scheduled to 4,410 ft. some 7.4 mile north of Oliver Springs and 2.1 miles northeast of the unnamed field. The third well is #AD-1038 Charlie Taylor et al. It will target pay at 4,260 ft. 7.8 miles north of the town and 2.4 miles northeast of the Monteagle field.
