1 Anadarko Petroleum Corp., The Woodlands, Texas, plans a 10,700-ft. horizontal wildcat, #1H LCSB 16-19-17, in the west-central Lowndes County segment of the Black Warrior Basin in Mississippi in 16-9n-17e targeting Paleozoic pay. The nearest drilling is 1.5 miles north-northwest, but the closest production is more than eight miles northeast in Stinson Creek. There, #9-15 Cunfious flowed 37,000 cu. ft. of gas a day. There are no producing wells within 5,000 ft. of the depth of the proposed wildcat within 11 miles.
2 Alabama gas shales continue to make choice targets as Dominion Black Warrior Basin Inc., Richmond, Va., found a discovery in northern St. Clair County. Although it didn't report production-test results, #4 West 21-14 in Section 21-13s-4e was tested through fractured perforations between 6,870-75 ft. in the 7,390-ft. well. The company didn't disclose the target formation, but slightly more than 1.5 miles south, #14 Beason 33-6 tested the Conasauga shale through perforations from 2,850 and 6,399 ft. Dominion completed the first producer in the county in late 2005, #1 Dawson 34-3. That well had produced a cumulative 24.06 million cu. ft. of gas and 3,851 bbl. of water from the fall of 2005 through June last year. It also has the only other producer in the county, #6 Newman 27-7, completed last year flowing 64,000 cu. ft. of gas a day.
3 Bigard & Huggard Drilling Inc., Mt. Pleasant, Mich., plans a wildcat to Silurian Niagaran at 6,500 ft. at its #1-25 USA-Wexford & Vultaggio in Section 25-24n-12w, Wexford Township, Wexford County, Mich. The wildcat is about 3.5 miles southeast of the Wexford 10-24n-12w Field discovery, #1 Luther. That tested for 9 million cu. ft. of gas and 454 bbl. of condensate a day from Niagaran perforations between 6,124 and 6,231 ft. It produced 3.87 billion cu. ft. of gas and 86,313 bbl. of condensate between 1972 and last June.
4 A second wildcat is in the works for West Bay Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich. Its #1-17 Siemen will be drilled to Devonian Dundee at 2,300 ft. in Section 17-16n-15e, Sand Beach Township, three miles west of Harbor Beach in Huron County on Michigan's thumb area, or Lower Peninsula. The wildcat is two miles west-southwest of a 4,482-ft. dry hole drilled in 1938.
5 Divining Intervention LLC, Manitowish Waters, Wis., permitted a 3,200-ft. wildcat to Geneva in Section 25-3n-1w in northeastern Clinton County, Ill. The #2 B Hester is about 3.5 miles northwest of Sandoval and 1.5 miles east of the closest producing well in Boulder East Field. That field has produced 330,000 bbl. of oil from 11 Devonian wells. Two miles north of the new venture, Fairman Field has produced about 2.35 million bbl. of oil in 55 Bethel and Benoist wells at about 1,450 ft., Devonian at 2,050 ft. and Trenton at 3,950 ft.
6 A wildcat staked by Aurora Energy Ltd., Traverse City, Mich., will look at gas zones through Trenton to 1,300 ft. in a nonproducing area. The #A4-12 Sondgeroth is in Section 12-24n-10w in southwestern Benton County, Indiana. A series of 20 dry holes have been drilled in the area. The closest production is about 45 miles away in two Ordovician fields on the Cincinnati Arch.
7 El Paso E&P Co. LP, Houston, plans a series of wildcats in Daviess County, Ind., searching for Devonian gas at 2,400 ft. The #1-17H Records is in Section 8-4n-6w about 2.4 miles southwest of Elnora Field, an Aux Vases pool, and 3.3 miles east of Plainville. The #1-8H Records will be drilled from the same section. Both are horizontal wells but neither distance nor direction of the laterals was revealed. The #1-16H Records is in Section 9-4n-6w two miles south of Elnora Field and 3.8 miles east of Plainville. The #1-9H Records, also a horizontal well, will be drilled from the same location as #1-16H well. Finally, #1-9H Summers is in Section 9-4n-7w, about 1.3 miles southeast of Edwardsport North Field, a Lower Ohara pool, and 2.6 miles west of Plainville.
8 M&M Royalty Ltd., North Canton, Ohio, plans a couple of wildcats to look at the Clinton Sand in Lot 48, Shaker Heights Quad, Beford Township in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The company's #1 Cleveland Outdoor Unit is 1.8 miles northeast of an unnamed Clinton field and a mile southwest of the town of Bedford Heights. The #2 Cleveland Outdoor Unit is 1.6 miles northeast of the unnamed field In the same county, Purcie Pipes, Mount Vernon, Ill., will drill #1 Chagrin Valley Country Club wildcat in Lot 14, Orange Township, Chagrin Falls Quad. That well is 3.4 miles northeast of an unnamed Clinton field.
9 Cranberry Township, Pa.-based Cranberry Oil & Gas Development Inc. plans three wildcats to Upper Devonian as it looks for gas in Section E, Marienville Quad, Jenks Township, in Forest County, Pa. The company's #1 O Hepler is 1.9 miles southwest of Marienville Field, which produces from Upper Devonian. The #2 O Hepler is 1.8 miles southwest of the field and the same distance north of Corsica. The #3 Hepler is 1.8 miles southwest of Marienville Field. All three are vertical wells.
10 William McIntire Coal, Oil & Gas, Shelocta, Pa., plans a three-well wildcat program to look for Upper Devonian gas in Section H, Clarion Quad, Monroe Township, in Clarion County, Pa. The #4 Sayers is 1.6 miles southwest of Manor Field, an Upper Devonian producer, and 4.8 miles northeast of the town of Sligo. The #6 Sligo Sportsmen Club is 1.6 miles north of an unnamed Upper Devonian field and 4.2 miles northeast of Sligo, and #1 Piney Creek is 1.3 miles south of Manor Field and 5.3 miles northeast of Sligo.
11 Chesapeake Appalachia LLC, Oklahoma City, will drill three wildcats in Preston County, W.Va., for natural gas. The company projects #626183 Kathryn Harris Evans to Marcellus Shale at 7,777 ft. in Grant District, Brandonville Quad, 1.3 miles south of Brandonville and 5.6 miles southwest of an unnamed field that produces from Warren Sand. The #626309 Darwin E. Titchenell et al., will evaluate Marcellus to 7,664 ft. in Pleasant District, Valley Point Quad. Chesapeake's #625184 James & Virginia Kelly is projected to Helderberg Lime, also in Pleasant District, Valley Quad. That well is 4.3 miles northeast of Wildcat Field, a Tuscarora sand producer.
12 Four wildcats will look at Big Injun and Devonian Shale in Swandale Quad in Clay County, W.Va., for Pine Mountain Oil & Gas Inc., Abingdon, Va. The #101 Emergy in Buffalo District is scheduled to Devonian at 6,400 ft. That well is less than a mile southeast of Swandale-Widen Field and 5.8 miles east of the town of Clay. The company will drill #78 Pine Mountain Oil & Gas Inc. to Big Injun at 2,440 ft. in Henry District, 1.5 miles northwest of Swandale-Widen Field, a Blue Monday Sand pool. It will drill #80 Pine Mountain Oil & Gas Inc. to Big Injun at 2,470 ft. for gas, also in Henry District, 1.7 miles north of Swandale-Widen Field. The fourth wildcat is #82 Pine Mountain Oil & Gas Inc., also scheduled to Big Injun at 2,470 ft. in Henry District.
13 Operators permitted two wildcats in Muhlenberg County in western Kentucky. Texas Gas Transmission LLC, Owensboro, Ky., will drill #17566 Texas Gas (Peabody Tract) to look for gas in the Bethel Sand at 2,195 ft. in Section 11-J-26e in Millport Quad. The proposed well is 1.5 miles west of Midland Consolidated Field, a Paint Creek pool, and 7.9 miles north of White Plains. The other wildcat is the Maxim Energy Inc., The Woodlands, Texas, #5 Maxim TEP Inc. That proposed 2,500-ft. Salem lime well will search for oil in Section 21-I-30e in Drakesboro Quad. It is 1.4 miles southwest of Belton Consolidated Field, an Ohara producer.
14 US Energy Partners Inc., Bowling Green, Ky., plans three wildcats to evaluate oil and gas potential to 1,500 ft. in Corniferous Lime in Warren County in central Kentucky. The #1 Thomas Wimsatt is in Section 10-G-39e in Bristow Quad, about 2.5 miles east of Bristow Consolidated Field, a Fort Payne reservoir, and 1.6 miles north of the town of Oakland. The #1 William Balance is in Section 25-H-40e in Smiths Grove Quad, 2.7 miles southwest of an unnamed Corniferous field and 2.8 miles northwest of Smiths Grove. The #2 William Ballance, in Section 25-H-40e, also in Smiths Grove Quad. That well is 2.3 miles southwest of the unnamed field .
15 US Energy Partners Inc., Bowling Green, Ky., took a permit for a 4,000-ft. Knox wildcat in Overton County, Tenn. The #2 James Matthews is in Section 16-4s-53e in Obey City Quad. The well is 1.3 miles southeast of an unnamed Monteagle field.
16 Four wildcats are planned in Morgan County, Tenn. Ariana Energy LLC, Knoxville, Tenn., will drill three to Chattanooga shale-#H7 Coal Creek Co. to 3,200 ft. in Section 25-6s-61e in Petros Quad; #2 Ruth Ruppe to 2,500 ft. in Section 1-7s-58e, Cardiff Quad; and #1 Glen Long to 2,600 ft. in Section 11-7s-58e, also in Cardiff Quad. Atlas America Inc., Moon Township, Pa., plans the fourth : #BR-1058 Domestic Fund 7 LLC, a 4,050-ft. Sequatchie gas test in Section 3-4s-61e in Fork Mountain Quad, northeast of an unnamed Knox field.
