1 MB Exploration LLC, Dallas, plans a remote wildcat in eastern nonproducing Tishomingo County, Miss., about three miles west of the Alabama state line. It will drill #1 Rushing to 2,000 ft. in Section 30-5s-11e. The #1 Mrs. W.H. McKinney made a Mississippian discovery, in 1952, almost 15 miles east-southeast, when a well flowed 278,000 cu. ft. of gas a day, although never brought online. Nearest Mississippian production is some 20 miles south in X-Files, Holly and Bluegut Creek fields, reports IHS Inc.
2 Midroc Operating Co., Dallas, permitted a Smackover wildcat for northeastern Alabama’s Escambia County, less than three miles south of the Conecuh County line. The #18-15 Cedar Creek Land & Timber will reach total depth of 13,100 ft. in Section 18-3n-12e. It has also drilled #10-9 Cedar Creek Land & Timber some 3.5 miles east-northeast. Smackover recovery comes from Little Cedar Creek Field less than eight miles north-northwest. Brought onstream in 1994, the field yielded 4.05 million bbl. of crude, 3.52 billion cu. ft. of gas and 10,532 bbl. of water from Smackover.
3 Merit Energy Co., Dallas, will drill #3-7A State Kalkaska in Section 6-27n-7w in search of oil and gas in Niagaran in Michigan’s Kalkaska County. The wildcat has a projected depth of 6,600 ft.
4 West Bay Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., completed a 4,760-ft. wildcat in southern Michigan some six miles southeast of Olivet in Calhoun County. The #1-23 Mullett initially flowed 160 bbl. of 42-gravity oil and 80,000 cu. ft. of gas a day with no water. The discovery is in Section 23-1s-5w, Lee Township, and is producing from Trenton-Black River from 4,697 to 4,747 ft. The site is one mile north-northeast of Trenton and Black River oil production in northern Albion-Scipio Field. West Bay’s Rice Creek Field is 3.5 miles south.
5 West Bay Exploration also plans two directional wildcats in the town of Livonia, a suburb of Detroit, in northern Wayne County, Mich. Both wells are projected to 3,150 ft. The #1-6 State-Livonia & West Bay and #1-3 State-Farmington & West Bay will be drilled from the same drillpad in Section 6-1s-9e. The surface location is about two miles east-northeast of Niagaran production near Northville 11-1s-8e and 12-1s-8e fields. Northville Field, a Trenton gas pool, is about four miles southwest.
6 J.U. Dodge, Springfield, Ill., staked a western Illinois wildcat to evaluate oil zones through Cambro-Ordivician Knox some two miles south of Ripley. The #1 Dormire Farms Inc. is in Section 9-1s-2w, eastern Brown County, about 2.5 miles northwest of an unnamed Devonian gas pool discovered in 1986. Closest reported oil production is about three miles south and slightly west at Cooperstown West Field, discovered in 1982.
7 King Oil Inc., Quincy, Ill., will drill #1 King-Christy in Section 18-5n-2e in Fayette County, Ill. The wildcat will reach total depth of 5,500 ft. and will target Trenton oil. The site is some 6.2 miles northeast of Vernon. Nearest production is in Wilberton Field, which produces from the Lingle lime, about four miles west.
8 Two shallow wildcats are slated for Indiana’s Pike County, reports IHS Inc. Aurora Energy Ltd., Traverse City, Mich., will drill #D3-17H Baker in Section 17-5n-1e to 900 ft. in search for Devonian gas. The wildcat is some 3.4 miles east of Bedford, Ind., with nearest production coming from Heltonville West Field, producing from New Albany about 3.5 miles south.
Big Man Oil Co., Owensboro, Ky., plans to drill #1A Yager to 2,000-ft. in Section 9-3s-8w to evaluate oil potential in McClosky lime. It is 3.1 miles west of Spurgeon. Nearest production is about one mile east-northeast in St. Genevieve Field.
9 J.R. Resources Inc., Richfield, Ohio, staked two locations in Ohio’s Cuyahoga County, both targeting Clinton sands. The #1 Aremington is a vertical development well in Chester Field that is projected to 3,999 ft. It is in Lot 3, Tract 2, Mayfield Heights Quad. The #1-D Howard Unit is projected to 3,999 ft., in Lot 12, Tract 3, Mayfield Heights Quad. That directional test is an outpost to Mayfield Field, and is 1.2 miles south of Gates Mills.
10 Franklin Gas & Oil Co. Inc., Wooster, Ohio, permitted a 3,500-ft. wildcat for Huron County. The #2 Gates Unity is in Lot 5, Monroeville Quad, about 6.3 miles north of Willard. The site will evaluate oil and gas in the Trempealeau, which is produced in an unnamed field some 1.1 miles south.
11 Nornew Inc., Houston, plans a wildcat in New York’s Madison County. The #2H Hillage will be drilled to 3,790 ft. in search of gas in Herkimer sand in Section A, Hamilton Quad, Eaton Township, about 4.4 miles northwest of Hamilton.
12 East Resources, Warrendale, Pa., plans to drill a 10,824-ft. wildcat to evaluate gas in the Black River lime in New York’s Chemung County about 2.9 miles southwest of Big Flats. The #1 Rhodes is in Section B, Seely Creek Quad, Big Flats Township. Black River production is in Rayner Field 2.6 miles northeast.
13 Dannic Energy, Indiana, Pa., plans a 4,500-ft. wildcat in Pennsylvania’s Butler County. It will drill #1 Mohn in Section 2, Chicora Quad, Fairview Township, on a 49-acre lease about two miles east of Karns Borough. The well will evaluate oil and gas in Upper Devonian. Nearest comparable production is 1.6 miles southwest in West Winfield Field.
Also, Rejiss Associates, Braddock, Pa., will drill #3 Suskey to 4,000 ft. in search of Upper Devonian production. The wildcat is in Section 5, East Butler Quad, Concord Township, on a 76-acre lease 0.66 mile southeast of Butler Cross Belt Field, which produces from Upper Devonian. The drillsite is 5.7 miles northeast of Butler.
BLX Inc., Kittanning, Pa., will drill #1-123 S. Geibel in Section 6, East Butler Quad, Donegal Township, about 2.9 miles southwest of Chicora. Closest production is in North Oakland Field some 1.6 miles east and produces primarily from Murraysville.
PC Exploration Inc., Warrendale, Pa., will drill #1 James L. Strange in search of Medina gas in Section 7, Barkeyville Quad, Marion Township. The 6,000-ft. wildcat is about 2.5 miles east of Harrisville and within three miles of the nearest Medina production in Byram Field.
14 Kriebel Minerals Inc., Clarion, Pa., will drill #6 Goettel in Allegheny County in search of oil and gas in an Upper Devonian series in Section 3, Monongahela Quad, Forward Township. The wildcat is about 3.3 miles south of Elizabeth. Nearest production from Upper Devonian comes from Hilldale Field about 1.1 miles south. Also, Huntley & Huntley, Monroeville, Pa., will drill #2 Micale in Section 4, New Kensington West Quad, Indiana Township, about 2.3 miles south of Russellton, Pa. Fifth sand production is 1.1 miles west in an unnamed field, reports IHS Inc.
15 Hard Rock Exploration Co., Charleston, W.Va., will drill three wildcats in search of gas in Devonian shale. The #208 Walter & Lona Hayes Jr. will reach a depth of 3,650 ft. in the Union District, Milton Quad, some 3.2 miles northwest of Milton in Cabell County, W.Va. Ball Gap Field produces from Lower Huron about 2.2 miles northwest. The #205 GMO Forest Fund will reach 4,700 ft. in the Grant District, Milton Quad, about 1.9 miles north of Milton. The latter well is 1.1 miles southwest of Ball Gap Field. The 3,720-ft. #207 Steven & Laura Cooper is also scheduled for the Union District, Milton Quad, some 2.6 miles from Ball Gap Field.
16 Quality Natural Gas LLC, Allen, Ky., scheduled four 5,800-ft. wildcats for Perry County in eastern Kentucky to evaluate gas in the Lower Devonian. The #1718 Ritchie Castora Heirs and #1570 ICG Natural Resources are both in Section 2-k-76e, Noble Quad. Hazard is 10.3 and 11 miles of these wells, respectively. The #1569 ICG is in Section 2 of the same township and quad, some1.8 miles from the nearest production. The #1572 ICG Natural Resources LLC is in Section 1, about 1.7 miles north of Hazard. Nearest production is Big Sandy Field, which produces from Devonian.
17 Three shallow wildcats are scheduled to evaluate oil zones in the Knox in central Kentucky’s Adair County. U.S. Energy Inc., Bowling Green, Ky., will drill #1 David Burris and #3 David Burrus in Gradyville Quad, some eight miles from Edmonton. Caney Fork Field produces from Leipers within two miles of both sites. David R. Wilson, Marinsville, Ind., plans #1 Darell Pelston for Section 9-f-50e, some 9.4 miles south of Columbia, Ky. Gradyville Field, which produces primarily from the Corniferous, is 1.1 miles southwest.
