1 Crows Point Exploration Ltd., based in Chicago, has scheduled three Silurian wildcats in Cass County, Ill. The #1 Fulton and #1 Votsmeier will be in Section 21-17n-8w and are each permitted to a total depth of 1,300 ft. About one mile to the east in Section 27-17n-8w of Sangamon County, #1 Steve Aggert is planned as a 1,300-ft. test. About one mile east-southeast of the proposed #1 Steve Aggert is an 1,100-ft. Silurian test drilled in 1999. Prentice Field is approximately seven miles south of Crows Point's three-well program and the field produces from Pennsylvanian pays at around 300 ft.

2 In Macon County, Ill., Production Energy LLC of Windsor Heights, Iowa, has planned up to four wells in its Silurian drilling program. The company's #1 Butterfield and #2 Butterfield are each scheduled to reach 2,600 ft. The proposed tests about one mile apart in Section 5-15n-2e. The #2 Butterfield was spudded in late April 2011. According to IHS Inc., Production Energy has been active in this part of Macon County, Ill., over the past two months. The #1 Bowman is also in Section 5 and was drilled in March to a total depth of 2,340 ft. The #2 Bowman reached 2,100 ft. and both wells are awaiting completion tools. Silurian oil production in Harristown South Field is two miles northwest of Production Energy's Silurian development.

3 A 3,200-ft. exploratory test has been staked by Deep Rock Energy Corp. in Saline County, Ill. The #1 Brown Farm is scheduled to be drilled in Section 5-9s-6e targeting McClosky. Several previous tests have been drilled in the area. Within one mile is a 1990 well, #1 Barnes, which was drilled to 2,936 ft. Site log tops include Barlow at 2,423 ft.; Aux Vases Sandstone at 2,768 ft.; Aux Vases Lime at 2,794 ft.; St. Genevieve at 2,828 ft.; and Fredonia (McClosky) at 2,883 ft. Production in Harrisburg Field is about two miles to the east-northeast of Deep Rock's planned drillsite, and the field produces from Waltersburg at 2,020 ft. and Tar Springs at 2,115 ft. Deep Rock Energy Corp.'s headquarters are in Linmundy, Ill.

4 An exploratory test is under way in Escambia County, Ala. Renaissance Petroleum Co., based in Houston, is drilling #1 RPC Craft-McCall 9-16 to an undisclosed depth in the Paleozoic. The venture is in Section 9-3n-9e of the county and is permitted to bottom to the north beneath the same section. Renaissance has completed two nearby wells, #1 Craft-Black Stone 17-5, which produced from a Smackover interval at 13,426-45 ft., and #1 Craft-Huxford 18-2, a 13,800-ft. directional wildcat completed in September 2010 that also produces through Smackover perforations at 13,512-30 ft.

5 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Venture Oil & Gas Inc. completed a Washita-Fredericksburg discovery in Section 1-2n-6e of Escambia County, Ala. The wildcat, #1 Indigo 6-5, produced 138 bbl. of 39.6-degree gravity oil and 4,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. Drilled to 15,435 ft., production comes from Washita-Fredericksburg perforations at 7,959-65 ft. Gauged on a 6/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 570 psi and the gas-oil ratio was 29:1 with no reported formation water. The well was perforated at 15,050-60 ft. and acidized but no details were provided on the deeper reser­voir. The discovery is surrounded primarily by deeper Smackover producers. Venture's headquarters are in Laurel, Miss.

6 In Cheboygan County, Mich., Encana Oil & Gas Inc. has scheduled more drilling in the Utica/Collingwood shale play. The Calgary-based operator's #1-34 State Tuscarora will be in Section 34-35n-3w with a proposed total depth for the vertical venture of 4,522 ft. Five miles to the east of #1-34 State Tuscarora is the company's #1-27 HD1 State Koehler & Kendall, in Section 33-35n-2w, which was tested in 2010 flowing 18 bbl. of crude and 225 bbl. of water from Collingwood at 4,425-7,572 ft. The state of Michigan has granted Encana an extension for the well for additional testing with a planned total depth of 7,595 ft., 4,233 ft. true vertical. A previously permitted well, #1-21 State Wilmot in Section 21-33n-3w, is planned about 10 miles south of #1-27 HD1 State Koehler & Kendall with a proposed total depth at the vertical wildcat of 5,834 ft.

7 Additional horizontal Marcellus drilling is planned in West Virginia by Chesapeake Appalachia LLC. The #3H Charles Frye is permitted to 12,625 ft., 6,400 ft. true vertical, in Triadelphia Dist., Valley Grove 7.5 Quad in Ohio County. Nearby, Chesapeake's #8H Gantzer was horizontally drilled in March 2011 to 12,677 ft. and two additional horizontal tests are planned from the same drilling pad as #8H Gantzer. About one mile northwest of #3H Charles Frye is a 7,159-ft. gas well completed 30 years ago that flowed 47,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from Huntersville chert at 6,581-6,646 ft. Also in the area are several shallower gas wells drilled in the late 1960s, including a 7,159-ft. well that flowed 47,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from Huntersville chert at 6,581-6,646 ft. Numerous other Chesapeake-operated horizontal tests are planned for this part of the Marcellus shale play. Chesapeake is based in Oklahoma City.

8 A horizontal Marcellus shale test has been planned by Gastar Exploration Inc. in Preston County, W.Va. The Houston-based company's #2H Hickory Ridge is planned to be drilled to a true vertical depth of 5,000 ft. One mile to the southwest of Gastar's new location is a 5,180-ft. vertical gas well completed in 2000 by Saga Petroleum LLC, #1-A Colorado Hickory Ridge, which yielded 407 million cu. ft. of gas from Huntersville chert at 4,864-5,082 ft. Gastar's Marcellus drilling program is being carried out in partnership with Atinum Marcellus I LLC, an affiliate of South Korean private-equity firm Atinum Partners.

9 According to IHS Inc., Williams Production Appalachia LLC has staked two horizontal Marcellus shale tests in Section 1, Blairsville 7.5 Quad, Derry Township, on a 614-acre lease in Westmoreland County, Pa. The #1-2H Frye South and #1-4H Frye South will be drilled from a common drilling pad near State Highway 217. The #1-2H Frye South has a proposed total depth of 13,749 ft. with a true vertical depth of 8,255 ft. Additional information is not available from the Tulsa-based company.

10 Several Marcellus shale tests have been permitted in Susquehanna County, Pa., by Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. of Houston. The #1 J. Zick will be horizontally drilled in Section A, Lenoxville 7.5 Quad, in Lenox Township, on a 274-acre lease. The venture is permitted to a total depth of 11,500 ft., 7,400 ft. true vertical. Up to four more tests could be drilled from the same surface location as #1 J. Zick. About two miles to the southeast is Cabot's Stalter lease. In February 2011, #8 Stalter was vertically drilled to an estimated depth of 7,571 ft. Cabot has permitted four horizontal Marcellus tests to be drilled from the same drilling pad as the vertically drilled #8 Stalter. Southwestern Energy Production Co. and Chief Oil & Gas are also active in the area.

11 Southwestern Energy Production Co. of Houston has staked two vertical Marcellus shale tests in Susquehanna County, Pa. The #1V Sheldon is scheduled to reach 7,026 ft. and is in Section H, Susquehanna 7.5 Quad, Jackson Township, on a 201-acre lease. About four miles to the southwest, the company's proposed #1V Longacre is in Section C, Harford 7.5 Quad, Longacre Township on a 167-acre lease. The company plans to drill this well to 6,920 ft. Five miles to the southeast is the proposed 7,091-ft. #1V Daniels. Southwestern Energy holds nearly 175,000 net acres of exploration land in this part of Pennsylvania. Several other operators have permitted tests in the Susquehanna/Wayne County area including Hess Corp., Stone Energy Corp. and Cabot Oil & Gas.
