EDF Saudi Arabia and TAQA Geothermal Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance geothermal technologies in Saudia Arabia, according to a Feb. 13 press release.

EDF and TAQA will collaborate on the development of geothermal cooling systems, including power generation, HVAC applications and compressed air energy storage, to reinforce the country’s commitment to strengthening decarbonized energy technologies, the release stated.

Geothermal utilization, whether via direct heat or electricity generation, is a “critical and untapped” resource to drive the global energy transition, said TAQA Geothermal CEO Meshary Alayed.

The partnership is in support of Saudia Arabia’s Vision 2030—a government program that aims to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy, society and culture.
