An application to capture and reinject natural gas into oil reservoirs so companies can comply with flaring bans has been developed by Industrial Equipment Sales & Services (IESS) and ELGi Equipments Ltd. subsidiary ELGi North America, the companies said in a Nov. 11 press release.
In early 2024, the U.S. government banned flame-off applications. The technology, called Air Source One, upgrades compressed air systems to be able to capture and use excess gas in lieu of flaring. It can be placed near oil well sites.
ELGi’s EN series rotary compressors include an integrated heater and ventilation system that can be mounted directly onto the compressor tank and range in power from 4 hp to 20 hp for a capacity of up to 150 psi.
"With the new regulations, [IESS’] Air Source One system with ELGi air compressors becomes critical for companies to continue to operate efficiently, while following environmental standards," said Randy Schlossin, an IESS sales representative.
The EN Series is easy to maintain and its belt drives have a 10,000-hr life expectancy to support efficient maintenance in remote locations.
“With the field-proven quality of ELGi EN Series air compressors, [IESS] can provide end-users with the most economical and reliable dry air from the most remote locations,” Schlossin said. "This capability extends to supporting flame-off operations and beyond, ensuring continuous, dependable service no matter the environmental conditions or operational demands."
Air Source One is already deployed in the Bakken Formation in North Dakota. Companies in the region use compressed air to power natural gas compressors, actuate instruments and supply oil well applications, according to the press release.
