?1 Initial production results were released for The Meridian Resource Corp.’s #1 BSM A-507. The well, drilled in the East Texas Austin Chalk play, tested at daily gross flow rates of 20 million cu. ft. of gas and 6,200 bbl. of oil per day. Flowing tubing pressure was approximately 1,300 psi through an open choke. The #1 BSM A-507 was drilled vertically to about 13,000 ft., and two horizontal laterals were added. The first extends some 5,400 ft. and the second, 6,200 ft. The well was placed on production shortly after the testing. It’s located in the James B. Reavis Survey, A-507, Polk County (RRC Dist. 3), about five miles southeast of Leggett, Texas. Independent Meridian has headquarters in Houston.
An ATP Oil & Gas Corp. producer has been completed on offshore Texas’ High Island Block A-589. The #A-2 OCS G27532 was drilled from the “A” platform to an undisclosed depth earlier this year. Located in the northwestern corner of the tract, the well’s water depth is 477 ft. The “A” platform, installed July 2007, will host up to five Block A-589 wells with a sixth well to be drilled from the “A” platform to a bottomhole location beneath undrilled Block A-580 to the north. ATP is based in Houston.
Houston-based companies Mainland Resources Inc. and Petrohawk Energy Corp. have signed a definitive binding agreement to jointly develop Haynesville shale on Mainland’s properties in DeSoto Parish, La. Mainland holds interests in 2,695 net acres in part of Holly East Field.?Under the terms, Petrohawk will pay 100% of the development costs for the first well drilled below the Cotton Valley formation and 80% of costs for the second well. Subsequent splits are Petrohawk 60% and Mainland, 40%.?Mainland will retain rights to all Cotton Valley and Hosston production on the leases, and Petrohawk will be designated as operator on all development.
Salt Lake City-based Questar Exploration & Production Co. completed a Cotton Valley sand test in Elm Grove Field in North Louisiana’s Bossier Parish.?The #4-ALT O. B. Mobley was tested flowing 3.97 million cu. ft. of gas, two bbl. of 50-degree condensate and 50 bbl. of water per day on an 44/64-in. choke from perforations at 8,621-10,056 ft. with flowing casing pressure of 820 psi. The producer was drilled to a total depth of 10,222 ft. in Section 34-17n-11w.
A Cotton Valley sand venture has been completed in Hico-Knowles Field in North Louisiana’s Lincoln Parish by Comstock Resources Inc. The #3-ALT Wright was tested flowing 3.3 million cu. ft. of gas, 40 bbl. of condensate and 150 bbl. of water daily from perforations at 10,108-11,169 ft. Flowing casing pressure is 2,250 psi on a 15/64-in. choke. The well was drilled to a total depth of 11,395 ft in Section 13-19n-4w. Comstock is based in Frisco, Texas.
Bayou Bend Petroleum Ltd., Vancouver,?and Contango Operators Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Contango Oil & Gas, Houston, have made a gas-condensate discovery on their Mt. Moran North prospect in the Marsh Island project in Eugene Island Block 10. The well was drilled to a total depth of 17,004 ft. and encountered pays in three separate gas-bearing sands. After completion, the well will be tied in to Contango’s EI 11 production facility for processing and sales. The prospect tested the Rob L geologic section, which is deeper than the previously announced Eagle’s Nest CibOp discovery.
Arena Offshore LLC plans two wells on offshore Louisiana’s Eugene Island Block 99. They will share a surface location in the northeastern portion of the tract. The “E” platform will be a permanent caisson installed over the wells with a production separator. A proposed 6-in. pipeline will transport production to the existing “B” platform on Block 100. Anticipated combined flow rates for the two Block 99 wells are 5 million cu. ft. of gas and 300 bbl. of oil per day. Arena Offshore is headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. Eugene Island Block 100 Field has produced 33.5 million bbl. of oil and condensate and 188.4 billion cu. ft. of gas since 1960.
Bois d’Arc Offshore Ltd. of Houston has filed an exploration plan for a two-tract offshore Louisiana prospect in the South Timbalier area for up to four wildcats on a common surface location on Block 110. Two of the tests will be drilled to the north to bottom beneath previously undrilled Block 101. Each test is expected to require 30 days to drill in water depth of 63 ft.?Two, 4-in. pipelines about 3,600 ft. long will be installed to transport hydrocarbons to the existing “A” platform on the tract.?
W&T Offshore Inc. filed a development plan for its Daniel Boone prospect on Green Canyon Block 646. The company’s subsea discovery will be tied back to Murphy Oil Corp.’s Front Runner spar on Block 338 via 25-mile right-of-way pipelines. The maximum flow rate is estimated at 10,000 bbl. of oil per day. The #1 OCS G20083 could be online before September.?Located in 4,230 ft. of water, the well was temporarily abandoned in 2004 at total depth of 12,365 ft. The well has approximately 275 ft. of high-quality oil- and gas-bearing sands. W&T is based in Houston and owns a 60% interest in the well.
IHS Inc. reports reestablished Chandeleur Sound Block 68 Field production in offshore South Louisiana state waters by Austin-based Brigham Oil & Gas LP.?The #1 State Lease 19312 was tested flowing 2.65 million cu. ft. of gas and 173 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 9,137-67 ft. Flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 2,075 psi and 2,350 psi respectively on a 17/64-in. choke. Total depth is 9,600 ft., with 95?8-in. casing set on bottom. The new Brigham well is a southern offset to the only previous producer in Block 68 Field. In 2002, #1 State Lease 17122 was completed flowing 10.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day when it was knocked offline by Hurricane Katrina.?The #1 State Lease 19312 is Brigham’s second well in a joint venture with Clayton Williams Energy Inc. of Midland.
