The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved a project that will add 33.5 Bcf of natural gas storage to Enstor Gas’ Mississippi Hub, Enstor announced April 15.
The Mississippi Hub is an underground natural gas storage facility connected to the Bond Salt Dome in Simpson County. The expansion calls for three additional storage caverns at the site, each with about 10 Bcf of storage, along with expansion of the other caverns currently in use.
Enstor expects to complete the project by 2028. The Mississippi Hub’s total natural gas capacity will reach approximately 56.3 Bcf.
“With U.S LNG exports rapidly expanding and the demand for gas-fired power generation continuing to grow nationwide, Enstor is excited to be on the forefront of providing the critical infrastructure necessary to ensure reliable energy security for the U.S. and beyond,” said Enstor CEO Paul Bieniawski.
Kinder Morgan has already fully subscribed to the first storage cavern to be completed for the project and expects to use the storage for its Southern Natural Gas and Tennessee Gas Pipeline systems.
