Steven B. Hinchman, the 43rd chairman of the Independent Petroleum Association of America has died. He was 66.
Hinchman served as chairman from 2018 to 2020 and as vice chairman two years prior to the term, IPAA President and CEO Jeff Eshelman said Jan. 3.
“Steve was at the helm of our association at the start of the pandemic, overseeing both in-person and the new virtual board meetings during his tenure,” Eshelman said.

Hinchman’s career began at Marathon Oil Corp. in 1980, where he worked as a reservoir engineer. He earned several leadership roles including executive vice president of technology and services and senior vice president of worldwide production and exploration.
Following retirement from Marathon in 2009, he transitioned to Callon Petroleum Co. as an executive vice president before he was promoted to COO.
