During his time with IPAA, Steven Hinchman founded Scala Energy and became its president and CEO.
Steven B. Hinchman, the 43rd chairman of the Independent Petroleum Association of America has died. He was 66.
Hinchman served as chairman from 2018 to 2020 and as vice chairman two years prior to the term, IPAA President and CEO Jeff Eshelman said Jan. 3.
“Steve was at the helm of our association at the start of the pandemic, overseeing both in-person and the new virtual board meetings during his tenure,” Eshelman said.
“While his career success was remarkable and earned him respect in the professional world, what he truly considered his life's success was the secure and promising future he created for his family.”
During his time with IPAA, Hinchman became the founder, president and CEO of Scala Energy LLC in 2016 before retiring in 2020.
Hinchman’s career began at Marathon Oil Corp. in 1980, where he worked as a reservoir engineer. He earned several leadership roles including executive vice president of technology and services and senior vice president of worldwide production and exploration.
Following retirement from Marathon in 2009, he transitioned to Callon Petroleum Co. as an executive vice president before he was promoted to COO.
