Lloyd N. Unsell passed away April 7 at age 84. He retired as president of the Independent Petroleum Association of America in 1987. He was born in Henryetta, Okla., in 1922 and is survived by his son Lloyd N. Unsell Jr., daughter Jonna Kay Unsell Wilhelm, five grandchildren and a great-grandson. Lloyd began his career at IPAA in 1948 as a staff writer, then vice president, public affairs, executive vice president and then president. Following retirement, he was IPAA's acting director of operations and administration upon a vacancy in the president's post. Unsell was on the editorial staff for the Seminole Producer and Tulsa Daily World, and served on two overseas Army newspapers during World War II. There will be a private funeral Saturday, May 12, at the National Press Club, Holeman Lounge, 529 14th Street, N.W., 13th Floor, Washington, D.C., from noon to 2 p.m. RSVP to Therese McCafferty at 202-857-4704.
