Nkiruka Catherine Ohaegbu, DBA, public affairs at Pacific Gas and Electric Co., is today's featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
While she chose a career in government affairs and economic development, Ohaegbu has always had an interest in technology, making a career in the oil and gas industry the perfect fit for her.
"Entering this industry combined my early interest in engineering and technology with my career experience in government relations and public affairs," she said. "It’s allowed me to learn more about the future of the industry and how clean energy plays a vital part."
Ohaegbu has been developing her leadership abilities through leadership programs and guidance from mentors. From this, she's learned that good leadership includes taking feedback from peers seriously, as well as working collaboratively with her team and separating her weaknesses from her strengths.
"There is an African proverb that says, ‘What an old man can see sitting down, the youth cannot see standing up.' Feedback from mentors have really helped me in developing my leadership abilities," Ohaegbu said.
Ohaegbu dedicates her time away from the office to her community, serving in leadership positions in multiple organizations such as the YMCA of Superior California, Metro EDGE, the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation and PBS-KVIE.
