Wilkie Colyer Jr., CEO of Contango Oil & Gas Co., is today’s featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
At the helm of Contango, Colyer has helped implement the company’s consolidation strategy to pursue the acquisition of PDP-heavy opportunities across the U.S., which eventually led the company to its multibillion-dollar merger with a KKR-backed firm in June.
“When I joined Contango, the company was struggling from a non-competitive cost structure and lack of strategic direction,” he said. “Since then, we’ve been able to right size the organization, procure a new bank facility, complete four significant acquisitions, sign a $5.5 billion merger and a smaller acquisition, which will both close later this year, and increased production by over five times.”
The merger transaction was announced closed on Dec. 7, forming Crescent Energy with Contango remaining as an operating subsidiary.
Prior to Contango, Colyer managed a portfolio of energy investments for a single family office. He currently serves on the board of directors of Mid-Con Energy Partners LP and formerly served on the board of Resolute Energy Corp.
