Argan, a construction company, announced Feb. 6 that its subsidiary Gemma Power Systems will build a 1.2 gigawatt (GW), gas-fired power plant in Lee County, Texas, located about 30 miles east of Austin.
Gemma entered into an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Sandow Lakes Energy Co. Construction is slated to begin in the summer, with the plant going online in 2028.
According to Argan, the generators will be able to operate on hydrogen with minor modifications. The plant will connect to the ERCOT system and will be able to provide 800,000 homes with electricity.
