1 Houston-based Goodrich Petroleum Co. completed a discovery for 301,000 cu. ft. of gas and 95 bbl. of water a day in Antonio Sanchez Survey, A-501, in western Nacogdoches County, Texas (RRC 5). The #2 Middlebrook is about 4.25 miles east of the Cherokee County boundary. It produced from fractured, commingled perforations in the Travis Peak and Cotton Valley from 10,268 to 13,705 ft. Goodrich ran tests through a 48/64-in. choke with 541 psi of flowing tubing pressure after plugging the 13,770-ft. well back to 13,741 ft. The closest Travis Peak recovery is in Douglass West Field some three miles north-northwest.



2 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, obtained a permit to drill a wildcat to 14,000 ft. in southern Cherokee County, Texas (RRC 6). The #1 Hargrave will be about 4.5 miles east of the town of Alto in John Durst Survey, A-15. IHS Energy says the well is a northwest offset to a 1974 well abandoned at 10,800 ft. The closest production comes from #1 Mable Boyd 2.5 miles west in Alto Field. That Travis Peak well tested 553,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from perforations between 10,423-30 ft. and has produced 299.1 million cu. ft. of gas, seven bbl. of condensate and 22,749 bbl. of water since 1983.



3 Famcor Oil Inc., Houston, gauged a successful Cockfield well at its #1 Johnson in Joaquin F. Rumayor Survey, A-103. The well, in northern Liberty County, Texas, (RRC 3) tested for 203,000 cu. ft. a day on a 5/64-in. choke with 1,350 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 5,094-96 ft. The nearest Cockfield production comes from Famcor's Six Lakes Field discovery well, #1 Roberts-Duke, less than a mile north-northwest in the same survey.



4 A discovery tested at the rate of 432 bbl. of oil and 200,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Hackberry perforations between 8,178 and 8,258 ft. for Square Mile Energy LLC, Houston. The company's #1 G.D. Clubb, six miles southwest of Beaumont in John C. Lawhon Survey, A-35, in northwestern Jefferson County, Texas, (RRC 3) was gauged on a 9/64-in. choke with 1,200 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The operator plugged the 9,100-ft. well back to 9,066 ft. for the completion. The closest recovery from Hackberry is 1.25 miles west-southwest in Ineeda Field, where #1 Pansy Wingate et al. tested for 241 bbl. of oil and 1.54 million cu. ft. of gas a day.



5 Reaching for gas, apparently in Edwards, Pioneer Natural Resources USA Inc., Irving, Texas, will drill a well in John Douglass Survey, A-136, in western Lavaca County, Texas, (RRC 2) about 6.25 miles east-northeast of Yoakum. The #1 Zak "A" Gas Unit is scheduled to 17,000 ft. The nearest Edwards production is from a Pioneer discovery a quarter-mile northeast. There, #1 Zak Gas Unit flowed 2.48 million cu. ft. of gas and 127 bbl. of water a day from Edwards perforations between 14,165 and 14,322 ft.



6 Dallas-based Ventex Operating Corp. plans a well, apparently to Wilcox, some 3.24 miles west-northwest of Goliad in William Hunter Survey, A-160, in central Goliad County, Texas (RRC 2). The #2 Patton will be drilled to 13,000 ft. immediately west-southwest of a 4,000-ft. Frio test for which Ventex has received a permit in the same section. The nearest recovery from Wilcox is a mile west-southwest at #1 Schendel in Saint Armo Field, where Ventex tested 1.45 million cu. ft. of gas, 14 bbl. of condensate and two bbl. of water a day through perforations from 11,494 to 11,558 ft. on an 8/64-in. choke with 2,900 psi of flowing casing pressure.



7 Andy McBride, Floresville, Texas, scheduled a wildcat, #1 McBride-Koepp to 2,200 ft., in Claiborne Rector Survey, A-277, about five miles east-southeast of Elmendorf in western Wilson County, Texas (RRC 1). Saspamco Field is a mile west-southwest in the same survey. The #1 Ploch in that field tested 75 bbl. of oil and 61,000 cu. ft. of gas from an openhole Austin Chalk zone from 3,790 to 3,804 ft., according to IHS Energy.



8 Houston-based operator Bridger Oil Inc. scheduled two wells, both in Section 16, Fernando Curvier Survey, A-85, in east-central Zavala County, Texas (RRC 1). The #1 Lindsey and #3 Lindsey will target Anacacho at 4,000 ft. The nearest production from Anacacho is in Hammond Field, two miles southwest. There, #1-B Adad Hammond tested for 77 bbl. of oil through an openhole zone from 3,684 to 3,966 ft.



9 An 8,000-ft. wildcat apparently will test Wilcox in Section 38, Block B, I&GN RR Survey, A-1507, in northeastern Webb County, Texas, (RRC 4) for Dan A. Hughes Co. LP, Beeville, Texas. The #1 Barbara Mullins is about three miles south of the La Salle County boundary line, and 2.25 miles southwest of the nearest Wilcox well, #4 Mary K. Withers in Maguellitos Northeast Field. That well tested for 17,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from perforations from 6,985 to 7,095 ft. It was abandoned with no production.



10 Coldren Oil & Gas LP, New Orleans, registered a dual completion in 45 ft. of water in the southwest corner of Main Pass 89 in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the company's exploration plan, it could drill up to four wells in the block. It has not reported test results from the 7,309-ft. #1 OCS-G-22790 well. The only previous producers in the block are more than two miles northeast. At that location, #1 OCS-G-06804 well, in Main Pass Block 89 Field, flowed 6.69 million cu. ft. of gas with five bbl. of condensate per day from Miocene perforations between 5,212 and 5,320 ft. It produced a cumulative 4.86 billion cu. ft. of gas, 2,569 bbl. of condensate and 103,236 bbl. of water.



11 Calgary-based Nexen Petroleum USA Inc. found 160 ft. of net gas pay as it drilled to 12,808 ft. at its Ringo prospect in 2,450 ft. of water in Mississippi Canyon 546 in the Gulf of Mexico. Cores taken in #1 OCS-G-25098 showed a good-quality reservoir with potential reserves between 60- and 170 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent. The company may drill up to six wells on the tract from separate surface locations.



12 A discovery rewarded Burlington Resources Oil & Gas LP of Houston as it drilled a wildcat in southwestern Lincoln Parish in northern Louisiana. The #1 TLC Enterprises tested Cotton Valley perforations from 15,526-28 ft. after reaching a total depth of 16,100 ft. in Section 11-17n-15w about five miles south of Simsboro. The closest Cotton Valley production is more than five miles north-northeast at #1 Durrett well in Simsboro West Field. That well flowed 1.54 million cu. ft. of gas per day.



13 Rippey Oil Co., Tyler, Texas, tested a Cotton Valley wildcat in Section 1-14n-12w in northern Red River Parish in northern Louisiana but didn't disclose details about the discovery. The company's #1 Waerstad is 0.75-mile south of the Caddo Parish boundary line. The new 10,348-ft. well is 1.5 miles west-southwest of Thorn Lake Field, where #1 Sample flowed 940,000 cu. ft. of gas and two bbl. of condensate a day from perforations from 9,632 to 9,914 ft.



14 Drilling within the town limits of Arabi in western St. Bernard Parish in southern Louisiana, Martin-Marks Operating Co. LLC, Metaire, La., will seek gas at its #1 J&A Meraux Inc. wildcat. The planned 6,300-ft. well is in irregular Section 75-12s-12e. The nearest production is nearly seven miles east-southeast in the town limits of Violet. There, #1 Borgnemouth Realty tested 6.4 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Cristellaria perforations between 9,481 and 9,556 ft. on a 14/64-in. choke with 10,785 psi of flowing tubing pressure.



15 Houston-based Unicorp Inc. reports that it has identified a prospect with estimated potential reserves of 10- to 15 billion cu. ft. of gas in its West Abbeville area in Vermilion Parish in southern Louisiana. It made the estimate based on 3-D seismic data. The company is beginning work to permit the as-yet unnamed well.



16 Griffin & Griffin Exploration LLC, Jackson, Miss., staked a wildcat to Frio in northern Wilkinson County, Miss. The #1 CMR-USA 39-14 is scheduled to reach 3,200 ft. in Section 39-4n-1w. The nearest production is from #1-32 USA well in Red Bug North Field, 0.75-mile north-northeast, reports IHS Energy. That 1999 well showed an initial potential of 1.5 million cu. ft. of gas, 336 bbl. of condensate and three bbl. of water a day from Tuscaloosa between 11,493 and 11,515 ft. It has produced 116.4 million cu. ft. of gas, 67,651 bbl. of condensate and 332,494 bbl. of water since it came online. The closest Frio production is another 2.5 miles northwest in single-well Crooked Creek Northwest Field.
