EnCana Oil & Gas (USA), Calgary, completed a Bossier wildcat as a high-volume discovery in eastern Robertson County, Texas (RRC Dist. 5), over six miles east-southeast of Franklin, that tested #1 S. McLean B in Jose Maria Viesca Survey, A-46, flowing 54.1 million cu. ft. of gas and 176 bbl. of water a day from perforations at 15,920-30 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 9,415 psi on 24/64-in. choke. It is 1.25 miles south of EnCana's earlier discovery at #1 Lewis Simpson, which has yielded 4.93 billion cu. ft. of gas since June 2006. EnCana is active in a number of tests in Savell Field area, reports IHS Inc.
Gunn Oil Co., Wichita Falls, Texas, plans a remote wildcat in eastern Bandera County, Texas (RRC Dist.1). The #1 Stevens is in the Holly Arnold Survey, A-2. It plans to drill the well to 11,000 ft. The only producer is in Manzanas Field some eight miles northwest.
Opal Energy Inc., Katy, Texas, plans a 16,000-ft. exploratory test in southwestern Wharton County, Texas (RRC Dist. 3), about three miles northeast of Louise. It plans to drill #1 Vitera Gas Unit 1 to evaluate Wilcox in the Henry P. Mills Survey, A-270. The 676-acre lease is in the Menefree Field area, which produces from Frio around 5,000 ft. The nearest Wilcox recovery is in one-well Jones Creek Southwest Field, 4.5 miles north-northwest. More Wilcox production comes from two-well Cottonmouth and Porters Creek South Fields, both within a 10-mile radius.
Arena Offshore LLC, The Woodlands, Texas, plans an offshore Texas wildcat for the southeastern portion of High Island Block A-515. The #1 OCS G24415 will be drilled in 199 ft. of water. Arena is removing its existing platform JA on Block A-528 and reinstalling it at the current site, nearly eight miles east-northeast. Two previous tests on Block A-515 are within 2.5 miles. One of the tests, #A-1 OCS G04189, was the sole producer in High Island Block A-515 Field through 1996.
Helis Oil & Gas Co. LLC, New Orleans, La., plans a wildcat in northeastern East Cameron Block 137, offshore Louisiana. It will drill #1 OCS G27828 in 82 ft. of water. The only previous drilling there is nearly three miles southwest. Nearest production is over 0.5 mile east-northeast on East Cameron Block 138 Field, which yielded 15.3 billion cu. ft. of gas from three Pliocene and Miocene zones from 1995 through 2002, according to IHS Inc.
Helis Oil & Gas Co. also plans a wildcat in the northwestern corner of South Marsh Island Block 257, offshore Louisiana. The #1 OCS G24881 will be drilled in 23 ft. of water. The only other production in the Block 257 Field is 1.33 miles south-southeast, from a platform that yielded 9.4 billion cu. ft. of gas from 1978 to 1985.
Remington Oil and Gas Corp., made a second discovery on its Noonan prospect on Garden Banks Block 506 in the northern Gulf of Mexico, and was subsequently acquired by Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. The #2 OCS G26664, named the Danny discovery, was drilled in 2,700 ft. of water. Tests confirmed the presence of high-quality oil in a single sand body with indications of reserve potential of 50 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent. The well is undergoing completion and first production is expected to be in the second half of 2008 via a tieback to its Noonan discovery. One-well Garden Banks Block 379 Field is 15 miles northeast. Nearest previous drilling is 4.75 miles south-southeast in southwestern Block 551.
Apache Corp., Houston, drilled #1 OCS G23908 to an undisclosed depth offshore Louisiana in the southern half of Ship Shoal Block 235 in 126 ft. of water, the first of 10 wells proposed for its two-tract prospect, which includes Block 212 to the north. Six wells are slated for Block 212 and four are scheduled for Block 235. Nearest recovery to the drillsite is 2.5 miles west-southwest in one-well Ship Shoal Block 237 Field, which produced from Montgomery between 1984 and 1989.

It drilled #A-1 OCS G26078 to a total depth of 9,734 ft. in 340 ft. of water. Gas flowed from perforations in Montgomery at 9,214-66 ft. at an undisclosed rate. Its platform A on Block 358 is over three miles southwest and is the sole producing block in Ewing Bank Block 988 Field.
BHP Billiton Petroleum (GOM) Inc., Melbourne, plans a third deepwater wildcat on its Genghis Khan prospect. The #3 OCS G21810 is slated to be drilled in the northeastern corner of Green Canyon Block 652 in 4,331 ft. of water. The #1 (BP), drilled from the same surface location, encountered about 110 ft. of high-quality net oil pay in the Lower Miocene in 2005. Apparent pay was also encountered in Middle Miocene. Marco Polo Field is in adjacent Block 608. It is also active at its four-tract Shenzi prospect to the east.
BHP Billiton also plans a deepwater wildcat on its Big Foot prospect on Green Canyon Block 953. The #1 OCS G20113 will be drilled in the southwestern portion of the tract in 4,811 ft. of water. Chevron USA Inc. is active in the same area, and has four wells planned for adjacent Green Canyon Block 952 in water depths ranging from 4,970 to 5,159 ft., reports IHS Inc. BHP discovered some 300 ft. of net oil pay 1.25 miles southeast. Also, Marathon Oil Co. plans to drill nearby in its Flathead prospect in the central portion of adjacent Walker Ridge Block 30. The #1 (ST) OCS G20261 is slated to be drilled in 6,566 ft. of water.
