GULF COAST
1 Katy, Texas-based Legend Natural Gas III LP reported a Garcias Ridge Field completion in Starr County (RRC Dist. 4), Texas. On a 278-acre lease in Section 88, Jose Salvador Garza Survey, A-105, #1 Starrpro Minerals C was tested flowing 2.52 million cu. ft. of gas, 151 bbl. of 55-degree condensate and 15 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations in Queen City at 8,198-8,208 ft. The respective flowing and shut-in casing pressures were 2,115 psi and 4,540 psi. Absolute open flow was calculated at nearly 3.3 million cu. ft. per day. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 8,415 ft. Legend is active at several other tests in the vicinity.
2 An Eagle Ford discovery initially flowed 8.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 500 bbl. of condensate per day at a Pioneer Natural Resources well in Live Oak County (RRC Dist. 2), Texas. The #5 Sinor Ranch had a wellhead flowing pressure of 4,550 psi on a 22/64-in. choke. According to the company, the liquids-rich gas contains 1,200 Btu per cu. ft. The discovery was drilled to 15,941 ft., 13,000 ft. true vertical, and completed in a 2,600-ft. lateral section with a nine-stage fracture stimulation. The venture is in the Walter Henry Survey, A-15. Pioneer now plans to expand the original five-well program by continuously operating one rig in the play through 2010 and will evaluate a further expansion as additional drilling results become known. Pioneer’s headquarters are in Irving, Texas.
3 Hilcorp Energy Co. of Refugio, Texas, completed a vertical Frio discovery in Refugio County (RRC Dist. 2), Texas. The #54 Thomas O’Connor B was tested pumping 121 bbl. of 35.6-degree crude, 73,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 686 bbl. of water. The completion was drilled to 8,120 ft. and was perforated at 5,905-09 ft. On a 26/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 900 psi. The wildcat was drilled in the Timothy Hoyt Survey, A-174. Log tops include Oakville at 3,300 ft.; Anahuac at 4,365 ft.; Oligocene, 4,785 ft.; and Lower Frio, 8,120 ft. Hilcorp is active at several other tests in the area.
4 In San Augustine County (RRC Dist. 6), Texas, Devon Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City completed a Haynesville well with a continuous 24-hour flow rate of approximately 30.7 million cu. ft. equivalent per day through a 37/64-in. choke and a flowing pressure of 6,824 psi. The #1H Kardell Gas Unit was drilled to 18,350 ft. with a horizontal lateral section of about 4,500 ft. and is in Section 13n-48e, Edmund Quirk Survey, A-35. Devon operates the well with a 48% working interest and Crimson Exploration Inc. owns the remaining 52% working interest.
5 Noble Energy Co. of Houston finaled a horizontal Haynesville well in Center Field in Shelby County (RRC Dist. 6), Texas. The #1H Mary Harris initially flowed 12.63 million cu. ft. of gas and 931 bbl. of water per day through acid- and fracture-stimulated perforations at 11,990-16,491 ft. With a 26/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 4,407 psi and 5,765 psi, respectively. The new producer was drilled to 16,605 ft., 11,754 true vertical, in the Thomas Haley Survey, A-286. The bottomhole location is about a mile to the south-southeast beneath the same survey.
6 IHS Inc. reported that Dallas-based Cubic Energy Inc. had a 24-hour peak rate of 15.3 million cu. ft. of gas equivalent per day from a horizontal Haynesville well in Bethany Longstreet Field. In DeSoto Parish, La., #1 Plants 26H flowed through perforations at 11,702-16,080 ft. Gauged on a 24/64-in. choke, flowing pressure was 7,000 psi. The new producer is in Section 26-14n-16w and was drilled to 16,523 ft. with a true vertical depth of 11,680 ft. Cubic owns a 10.16% working interest in the well.
7 Petrohawk Operating Inc. finaled a horizontal Haynesville well in Red River-Bull Bayou Field in Red River Parish, La. The #1 Ninock 6H flow-tested 25.47 million cu. ft. gas and 576 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 12,860-17,468 ft. Using a 28/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 8,691 psi. Houston-based Petrohawk’s well was drilled to 17,490 ft., 12,518 ft. true vertical, in Section 7-13n-10w. Log tops at the site include James Lime at 5,439 ft., Cotton Valley at 9,624 ft., Bossier at 10,158 ft. and Haynesville at 12,471 ft.
8 In Red River Parish, La., Longview, Texas-based J-W Operating Co. completed a horizontal Lower Cotton Valley well as part of Woodardville Field. The #1 Indigo Minerals LLC 3 was tested flowing 20 million cu. ft. of gas and 500 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 12,422-16,752 ft. The flowing casing pressure was 8,500 psi on a 22/64-in. choke. The producer was drilled to a total depth of 16,850 ft. with a true vertical depth of 12,288 ft.
9 A Miocene recompletion by Hilcorp Energy Co. of Houston was reported as part of Lake Barre Field in Terrebonne Parish, La. IHS Inc. reported that the initial daily pumping rate was 680 bbl. of 33-degree oil and 206,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 14,664-14,770 ft. The well, #5 L.B. 39, is in Section 34-21s-19e, and was plugged back at an undisclosed depth after drilling to 15,955 ft. The original completion was drilled in 1963 and it produced from two deeper Miocene intervals at 14,650 -14,778 ft.
10 Additional pay has been found by deepwater Shenzi oil field partners BHP Billiton and Repsol YPF. The #SG104 OCS G20085 is in Green Canyon Block 654. After drilling to 25,605 ft. in early 2009 and finding 555 ft. of net oil pay, an additional 497 ft. of net oil pay has also been found in the well in two shallower intervals. The Shenzi Field well began producing from Lower Miocene pay in September. BHP-operated Shenzi Field consists of Green Canyon blocks 609, 610, 653 and 654. Water depth in the area is 4,300 ft. Production from the four-tract area is tied back to the Shenzi tension-leg platform in the eastern portion of Block 653. Full field development is expected to expand to a total of 15 producing wells and future water injection wells. Production currently comes from 10 wells in the reservoir. BHP operates Shenzi and holds a 44% stake in the project; Repsol holds 28%. Hess Corp. also holds a 28% interest in the venture. Gross recoverable reserves in the Shenzi area are estimated at 350- to 400 million bbl. of oil equivalent. BHP’s headquarters are in Melbourne, Australia.
11 Venture Oil & Gas of Laurel, Miss., reported a Rodessa completion in Reedy Creek Field, Jones County, Miss. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, the #1 Sarah Bemis 9-6 is in Section 9-9n-11w and flowed 120 bbl. of 35-gravity oil per day. Log tops reported were Midway Group at 4,150 ft.; Selma Chalk at 4,874-6,133 ft.; Lower Tuscaloosa, 7,814 ft.; Lower Cretaceous, 8,318 ft.; Paluxy, 9,410 ft.; Mooringsport, 10,942 ft.; Rodessa, 11,378 ft.; Sligo, 11,637 ft.; and B. Ferry Lake Anhydrite, 11,236 ft.
12 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Roundtree & Associates completed a Smackover discovery in the Paulding area of Jasper County, Miss. The company’s #23-7 Read 1 is in Section 23-2n-12e and flowed 332 bbl. of oil per day. The well was drilled to 14,860 ft. and produced from three perforated zones in Smackover at 14,512-17 ft., 14,540-45 ft. and 14,596-14,622 ft. Log tops at the site were Base Selma at 5,060 ft.; Lower Tuscaloosa at 6,474 ft.; Haynesville at 14,196 ft.; and Smackover at 14,540 ft. Roundtree & Associates is based in Ridgeland, Miss.
