Oilfield services giant Halliburton Co. has begun to restrict all global, non-critical business travel as the spread of the coronavirus outbreak grows, according to a March 3 statement.
Concern over the coronavirus (COVID-19) has grown in recent weeks as reports of the virus, which had been first reported in China in late December, has now spread across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America. As of March 3, a total of 90,893 cases of COVID-19 and 3,110 related deaths had been reported globally, according to the World Health Organization.
“We are monitoring the evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation closely and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as internal health experts to help protect our employees,” Halliburton told Hart Energy in an emailed statement.
Houston-based Halliburton is the world’s second largest oilfield services company with about 55,000 employees across more than 80 countries.
