Following President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright as U.S. energy secretary, the company’s board has announced a succession plan if the nomination is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, according to a Nov. 18 press release.
If Wright is confirmed for the role, Liberty will appoint company executives Ron Gusek as CEO and William Kimble as non-executive chairman of the board. Gusek is currently president and Kimble is a board member of Liberty.
Wright was also picked to be a member of the newly formed Council of National Energy to oversee permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation and transportation of all forms of U.S. energy, according to Trump’s announcement of Wright’s nomination.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity from [Trump] to serve our country as U.S. secretary of energy,” Wright wrote on X in response to Trump’s nomination statement. “My dedication to bettering human lives remains steadfast, with a focus on making American energy more affordable, reliable and secure.”
Trump and moguls in the energy industry praised Wright’s contribution to global energy markets and in pioneering the American shale revolution.
Last week, Continental Resources Founder Harold Hamm told Hart Energy that Wright was his top pick for the role of energy secretary, calling Wright “one of the most articulate people that I know of in energy and from our industry.”
Brigham Exploration Founder Bud Brigham told Hart Energy, “Under [Wright’s] guidance, we can expect policies that not only ensure energy security but also uplift communities, foster economic growth and enhance quality of life.”
Wright will continue in his current roles at Liberty until the confirmation process is complete, Liberty said.
