Martin Midstream Partners announced June 24 the ongoing recovery efforts after an oil spill originating from Martin’s transfer line, which connects the company’s Sandyland Terminal to the Smackover Refinery in Union County, Arkansas.
The spill occurred June 15. According to Martin’s statement, approximately 2,000 bbl of crude were lost in the incident.
The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment stated that the spill, which flowed into Holmes Creek, had been contained, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. The cause of the leak remains under investigation.
Martin is working closely with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to respond to the spill, according to the company statement.
“The Partnership has dedicated the necessary resources, equipment, and personnel to conduct and expedite oil recovery and cleanup activities,” Martin said. Crews are using specialty equipment to prevent the spill from spreading down nearby waterways.
