2 Oil at a rate of 166 bbl. a day rewarded Falcon Exploration Inc., Wichita, Kan., at its #1-3 Giles Ranch discovery in Section 3-31s-22w in northeastern Clark County, Kan. The discovery, about 12 miles north-northeast of Ashland, produced 4,341 bbl. of oil from Morrow sand in April and 5,147 bbl. in May. The company followed up with two more wells projected to 5,600 ft. in a northwest-southeast trend between 0.75- and one mile northwest. No details are available on those wells.
3 Chesapeake Exploration LP, Oklahoma City, proposed four horizontal wildcat wells to Fayetteville Shale in White County, less than 12 miles north and west of Searcy, Ark. North of Searcy, the tests are #1-1H Knudsen in Section 1-8n-7w, a 7,722-ft. well with a 3,600-ft. lateral, and #1-6H Murphy in Section 6-9n-7w, an 8,132-ft. well with a 4,000-ft. horizontal. The wells west of Searcy are #1-17 Terry in Section 17-8n-9w and #1-5H Walkers in Section 5-7n-9w. The closest production to any of the wildcats is five miles away.
4 Three Fayetteville wildcats are in the planning stages for Hallwood Petroleum LLC, Dallas, in a drilling program in southwestern White County. The company's #1-22 Landis Coley, in Section 22-6n-8w, is a vertical well proposed to 9,500 ft. It's about a mile south of another proposed well, #1-15 Coley, planned to the same depth. About seven miles west-northwest of the Landis Coley well, Hallwood staked #1-9 Hill Farms in Section 9-6n-9w, a 9,200-ft. vertical well. The Hill Farms well is more than two miles east-northeast of a horizontal well in progress.
5 Jones Energy Ltd., Austin, Texas, tested 1,000 bbl. of oil and 5 million cu. ft. of gas a day during the first month online for the company's #1-16H Sally Jo in Section 16 of partial Township 21n-26w in western Ellis County, Okla. The well produced from a fractured open-hole lateral in the Cleveland sand at a measured depth of less than 10,094 ft. More than 2,000 ft. of the lateral was in the sand. The surface location is a northeast offset to an abandoned vertical Cleveland producer off the northern edge of Shattuck West Field.
6 A discovery flowing at 246 bbl. of oil, 915,000 cu. ft. of gas and 32 bbl. of water a day greeted Crusader Energy LLC's #1-13H Seahawks at a northern Anadarko Basin wildcat in Ellis County, Okla. The well, in Section 13-20n-26w, produced from an open-hole Cleveland lateral between 8,431 and 10,520 ft. on a 20/64-in. choke with 540 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The Oklahoma City company's discovery is 1.25 miles southeast of the closest Cleveland producer in Goodwin West Field.
7 Energen Resources Corp., Birmingham, Ala., registered a producer with its #1 Texas Deep State well in central Lea County, N.M. The Devonian well, drilled in Section 3-15s-33e, more than 12 miles west-northwest of Lovington, tested pumping 306 bbl. of oil with a trace of gas and 67 bbl. of water from an openhole section between 13,548 and 13,700 ft. The nearest production comes from another Energen well a half-mile northeast. There, #1 Saunders Deep State tested for 563 bbl. of oil a day, a trace of gas and no water, from an openhole Devonian interval between 13,542-48. It recovered 6,680 bbl. of oil, 350,000 cu. ft. of gas and 4,124 bbl. of water in May.
8 About two miles west of the Eddy County boundary line in Chaves County, N.M., Bold Energy LP and Parallel Petroleum Corp. of Midland, Texas, permitted Wolfcamp wells. Bold will drill #1 Ruth 10 Federal horizontal well in Section 10-20s-20e to 7,787 ft., or 4,300 ft. vertical depth. That well is 0.67-mile west-northwest of the company's #1 Rachel 14 Federal in Section 14. That well is permitted to the same vertical depth but a 7,801-ft. measured depth. Parallel plans its #1 Roy Rogers 1920-35 Federal well about two miles north of #1 Rachel 14 Federal. The Parallel well in Section 35-19s-20e is permitted to 5,000 ft.
Meanwhile, Parallel permitted #1 Dale Evans 1920-26 State Com a mile north in Section 26 of the same township. Crooked Canyon Field in western Eddy County is about 2.5 miles east of the Parallel wells, reports IHS Inc. There, #1 Sargen Canyon 31 Federal has produced 148 million cu. ft. of gas, 362 bbl. of condensate and 355 bbl. of water since it came onstream in late 2001.
9 Fort Worth, Texas-based Range Resources Corp. plans a deeper-pool exploratory well to Hunton at 10,700 ft. about 25 miles north-northwest of Miami in Roberts County, Texas (RRC 10). The company's #11 Courson Ranch is in Section 1, BBB&C Survey, A-3, the southwestern Anadarko Basin. The second objective for the well is shallower St. Louis at around 9,000 ft. The Range well is a quarter-mile northwest offset to a 9,500-ft. well completed last year and folded into Alpar-Lips Field. That well's initial potential reached 186 bbl. of oil and 486,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from St. Louis perforations between 8,990 and 9,034 ft. Range discovered the only commercial Hunton pool in Roberts County in December 2003 about three miles southeast. There, #1220 Killebrew was tested for 240,000 cu. ft. of gas through a 22/64-in. choke with 245 psi of flowing tubing pressure.
10 Dolphin Production Co., Edmond, Okla., will drill #1028 Barbara in Section 28, Block M-2, H&GN Survey, A-824, in southeastern Roberts County, Texas (RRC 10). The proposed 6,000-ft. wildcat will be about five miles southeast of Miami, Texas, and about three miles southwest of Gill Ranch Field, a gas/condensate producer with production from Brown Dolomite at about 4,600 ft., Granite Wash at 8,700 ft. and 10,900 ft., Morrow at 11,800 ft., Kinderhook at 14,300 ft. and Hunton at around 14,300 ft. The Brown Dolomite opener in that field, #4014 Mathers, showed an initial potential of 1.07 million cu. ft. of gas through perforations between 4,612-50 ft. and between 4,657-64 ft.
11 Motley County, Texas, (RRC 8A) will host two wildcats planned by Gunn Oil Co., Wichita Falls, Texas. Both wells are about 15 miles east-southeast of the town of Matador. The #155 Agua Negra is in Section 55, Block B, J.H. Stephens Survey, A-624, and #154 Agua Negra is 1.5 miles east in Section 54, Block B, J.H. Stephens Survey, A-623. Both wells will drill to 5,000 ft. The #154 well is an east offset to #1 Swenson 1-54 in Matador Field. That 4,591-ft. well was drilled in 1997 and pumped 20 bbl. of oil a day from Wolfcamp from 3,191-96 ft. and yielded a total 287 bbl. of oil.
12 EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., Denver, continued its Barnett Shale exploration program in eastern Montague County, Texas (RRC 9). The latest well, #2H Hartman, is a 9,000-ft. horizontal test that will be drilled on the John Morton Survey, A-487, a little more than two miles from the Cooke County boundary line, according to IHS Inc. The #1 Hartman, 1.25 miles east, tapped the Barnett Shale on its way to 8,454 ft. in 2001. It tested 35-degree-gravity oil from Barnett Shale between 7,703 and 8,329 ft. The well is in Barnabus Field, operated by EnCana. The field has produced 7,658 bbl. of oil and 3.11 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas, including 14 bbl. in May.
13 The Oak Hills Drilling & Operating LLC subsidiary of Lexington Resources Inc., Las Vegas, permitted a wildcat in southeastern Comanche County, Texas, (RRC 7B) about 4.5 miles southwest of Gustine. The company will drill #1 Petta to 5,000 ft. in William E. Hatton Survey, A-425. The proposed well is two miles northwest of #1H Steward, a 4,549-ft. horizontal wildcat that has been cased and is waiting for completion tools. That well was supposed to reach bottom some 3,000 ft. southeast in William Walker Survey, A-1004. Two more vertical tests were permitted another 0.75-mile northeast.
14 Sharp Image Energy Inc., Big Spring, Texas, brought in a discovery more than 15 miles northeast of its headquarters in northeastern Howard County (RRC 8). It tested #2 Wildhorse A for 80 bbl. of oil, 30,000 cu. ft. of gas and 20 bbl. of water a day from Lower Canyon acidized perforations from 8,027-30 ft. It tested the well through an 8/64-in. choke with 400 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well is in Section 36, Block 27, H&TC Survey, A-1203. Less than a mile south-southeast, #1 O'Daniel 36 in Wildhorse Field found oil in Upper Canyon. That well produced 254 bbl. of oil and 228,000 cu. ft. of gas in May and a cumulative 28,561 bbl. of oil and 33.3 million cu. ft. of gas.
15 The #1 Woodpecker will reach for 12,950 ft. about 15 miles north-northeast of Kermit in northern Winkler County, Texas (RRC 8). Momentum Energy Corp., Midland, Texas, permitted the wildcat in Section 1, H. Cummins Survey, A-1679. Flying W Field lies less than three miles east of the well. That field produces oil from Wolfcamp, Devonian, Fusselman and Ellenburger.
16 Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, completed a discovery with its #1 Mayfield A in northwestern Edwards County, Texas (RRC 1). The well is in Section 188, CCSD&RGNG Survey, A-1772, more than 20 miles northwest of Rocksprings. It tested for 963,000 cu. ft. of gas and eight bbl. of water a day from acidized Ellenburger perforations between 8,980 and 9,012 ft. The closest production to the well is about 1.5 miles southwest in Wardlaw Field. That field produces from shallow Glen Rose. Newfield is drilling another wildcat, #1 Mayfield B, about five miles southeast of the latest discovery.
