1 Dark Horse Oil Co. LLC, Elizabeth, Colo., staked a wildcat approximately 14 miles south of Sharon Springs, Kan., in a nonproducing area of the Las Animas Arch. The #1-8 Young, in Section 8-16s-40w in northern Greeley County, is set to reach 5,250 ft. in the Mississippian to test the Morrow sands. The closest producer is 11-well Mount Sunflower Southeast Field, 7.5 miles west-northwest. It has recovered 1.78 million bbl. of oil and 713 million cu. ft. of gas from the Morrow. 2 Oklahoma City-based Castelli Exploration Inc. staked a wildcat in northeastern Comanche County, Kan., about 13 miles east-northeast of Coldwater. The #29-F CK, in Section 29-31s-16w, is projected to 5,250 ft. total depth to reach the Viola. It is designed primarily as a Mississippian gas test, according to IHS Energy. It is 3.5 miles off the western flank of Schuette Field, which has recovered 7.2 billion cu. ft. of gas and 151,000 bbl. of oil from the Douglas, Marmaton and Mississippian. 3 Seeco Inc., the Fayetteville, Ark.-based unit of Southwestern Energy, completed a Mississippian discovery in southwestern Van Buren County, Ark., in the northeastern Arkoma Basin some 11 miles southwest of the town of Clinton. The #1-36 Hindreth, in Section 36-10n-16w, was tested flowing 578,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through fracture-stimulated intervals between 2,302 and 2,590 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 93 psi on a 32/46-in. choke. Total depth is 3,695 ft. and the well was permitted to the Hunton. The well is nine miles east-northeast of Griffin Mountain Field, where a producer had an initial flowing potential of 532,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from fracture-stimulated intervals between 2,750 and 3,036 ft. 4 Seeco Inc. staked two new wildcats, including a 5,100-ft. test two miles west of Damascus, Ark., in the northeastern Arkoma Basin, widening its exploration program to target the Mississippian Fayetteville shale. The #1-2 Boy Scouts, in Section 2-8n-14w in Conway County, is planned to reach total depth in the Boone. The closest producer is two miles south-southwest in Martinville Field. The #1 Miller was tested flowing 75,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from intervals in the Orr between 2,042-59 ft. and 370,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from intervals in the Hale between 2,655 and 2,658 ft. The field's only producer recovered 38 million cu. ft. of gas in three years after going online in 1982. 5 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, completed two new Morrow discoveries in its drilling program in the Oklahoma Panhandle in Texas County. The 23#2 Freeman Ranch, in Section 23-3n-13e, seven miles west and slightly north of the town of Guymon, Okla., was tested pumping an estimated 262 bbl. of 38-degree-gravity oil, 96,000 cu. ft. of gas and 18 bbl. of water per day through acidized- and fracture-treated Morrow between 6,054-92 ft. The other wildcat is 3.5 miles southwest of Guymon as a Cherokee oil producer. The 16#2 CLO, in Section 16-2n-14e in southern Texas County, was tested through acidized- and fracture-treated Cherokee sand intervals between 5,730-36 ft. flowing 116 bbl. of oil, 106,000 cu. ft. of gas and 20 bbl. of oil daily. The flowing tubing pressure of the 6,400-ft. well was gauged at 60 psi on a 64/64-in. choke. 6 St. Mary Land & Exploration Co., Denver, completed a 19,600-ft. wildcat 13 miles northwest of Erick in western Oklahoma. The #1-31 Dobson Ranch, in Section 31-11n-26w in northwestern Beckham County in the western Anadarko Basin, is producing from the Morrow through fracture-treated perforations between 17,346 and 17,588 ft. It tested at a rate of 7.7 million cu. ft. of gas and 12 bbl. of water daily. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 8,600 psi on a 10/64-in. choke. The well is about a mile north of the #1 Puryear, an abandoned producer on the northwestern flank of Mayfield West Field. When completed in 1984, the well flowed 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas and 100 bbl. of 50-gravity condensate daily from perforations in the Des Moines between 13,060 and 13,154 ft. According to IHS Energy, the well was onstream for 11 years. 7 Range Production Co., Oklahoma City, staked a series of four ultradeep wildcats between five miles and 7.5 miles north-northwest of Gotebo, Okla., in the southern portion of the Anadarko Basin. The #1-7 Klondike, in Section 7-8n-16w, is projected to a total depth of 22,500 ft. The #1-17 Klondike, in Section 17-8n-16w, will be drilled to a total depth of 22,800 ft. The 19,000-ft. #1-18 Klondike is in Section 18-8n-16w and the #1-20 Klondike, scheduled to reach 22,800 ft., is in Section 20-8n-16w. All of the prospects are in southern Washita County. According to IHS Energy, the #1-18 Klondike will test potential pays in the Deese, Atoka, Morrow, Springer and Chester. The other wells will evaluate those zones in addition to the Hunton. The series is between 0.75 and 2.25 miles generally south and southwest of Rainey Northeast Field. Onstream for 18 years after being completed in 1982, the first well in the abandoned two-well field produced 836 million cu. ft. of gas with 19,000 bbl. of condensate from the Morrow through intervals between 11,000 and 12,500 ft. A second well completed in 1983 recovered 11,000 bbl. of oil from the Atoka during eight years online through intervals between 10,611-19 ft. 8 Midland independent Nadel & Gussman Permian LLC completed a discovery in western Lea County about 15 miles west-northwest of the town of Lovington, N.M. The #1 Raptor State, in Section 15-15s-33e, was tested pumping 200 bbl. of oil daily, with no gas or water, through Morrow intervals between 12,458 and 12,538 ft. Total depth is 13,855 ft. The #1 Coquina "WK" State is about a third-mile north in Saunders Field. The 10,181-ft. well has yielded 35,465 bbl. of oil, 51.78 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 292,278 bbl. of water through perforations in the Upper Pennsylvanian between 9,867 and 9,999 ft. until 1993. 9 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., completed a wildcat in southwestern Eddy County on the southern flank Hess East Field. The #1 Chimay "BAO" State, in Section 2-24s-23e, tested flowing 1.18 million cu. ft. of gas, with no condensate, and two bbl. of water daily through acid- and fracture-treated perforations in the Atoka between 9,750-62 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 620 psi and total depth is 10,900 ft. According to IHS Energy, the workover apparently has been designated the Hess Hills Field opener. It was originally completed in mid-2003 flowing 1.57 cu. ft. of gas per day from the Morrow as part of the Hess East Field, which had yielded 209.32 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,899 bbl. of water through August. 10 E. N. Patton Oil Co. Inc., Abilene, permitted a wildcat about a half-mile north of the Throckmorton County line in southern Baylor County, Texas, (RRC 9) about 13 miles south-southwest of the town of Seymour. The #2B Fancher, in Section 19, Block 45, H&TC Survey, A-214, is projected to a total depth of 1,999 ft. About 1.3 miles south-southeast is the #3 Clark/SMS Ranch, which was completed in 1991 flowing 707,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from perforations in the Tannehill between 1,256-62 ft. The 1,450-ft. well only produced 138,000 cu. ft. of gas. 11 Wichita Falls, Texas, independent Hollis R. Sullivan Inc. is planning to drill a 7,200-ft. wildcat west of Dalwood Field in southwestern Dickens County, Texas (RRC 8A). The #1 Dalwood "182" is in Section 182, Block 1, H&GN Survey, A-738, more than five miles southwest of the town of Spur. It is 2.25 miles west of the nearest well in the same field. The #2 Williams was completed pumping 60 bbl. of 38-gravity crude per day from intervals between 5,021-30 ft. in the Tannehill. The 5,250-ft. well was completed in January 2002. 12 Peba Oil & Gas, Nocona, Texas, staked two Barnett Shale tests in northern Palo Pinto County, Texas, (RRC 7B) less than a mile west of the Graford city limits. The #1 A. Dworsky, in Section 1716, TE&L survey, A-491, is set to reach a total depth of 6,900 ft. The other test, the #2 M. A. Green, is about 1,000 ft. south in Section 1711, TE&L Survey, A-486. The #1 Vivian Murphy, 1.6 miles east-southeast, was recently completed flowing 113 bbl. of 47-gravity oil, 174,000 cu. ft. of gas and 93 bbl. of water daily through treated intervals between 4,700-60 ft. according to IHS Energy. 13 Oklahoma City-based Chaparral Energy LLC completed a discovery about eight miles north-northwest of the town of Orla, Texas, in western Loving County (RRC 8) on the western flank of Tunstill Field. The #1046 Hacienda State, in Section 46, Block 56, T1, T&P survey, A-1334, was tested flowing 125 bbl. of oil, 885,000 cu. ft. of gas and 59 bbl. of water daily through acid- and fracture-treated intervals in the Old Sands between 3,232-71 ft. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,304 ft. A third of a mile east-northeast is the #1-46 Tyler State. It was completed flowing 385,000 cu. ft. of gas daily through acid-treated perforations in the Cherry Canyon between 4,512 and 4,789 ft. 14 Bluegrass Energy Inc., Tulsa, staked a wildcat nearly four miles north-northeast of the town of Iraan, Texas, in northwestern Crockett County (RRC 7C). The #1028 Simpson Canyon, in Section 28, Block HH, GC&SF Survey, A-4792, is permitted to a total depth of 7,000 ft. in the Wolfcamp. Almost a mile southwest is the 5,900-ft. #1045 Simpson Canyon. The Wolfcamp discovery had an initial daily potential of 154 bbl. of oil, 34,000 cu. ft. of gas and no water, and was tested through acidized perforations between 5,654-72 ft., according to IHS Energy.
