Ritchie Exploration Inc., Wichita, Kan., plans a wildcat to test Pennsylvanian and Mississippian formations to 5,450 ft. on the eastern flank of the Hugoton Embayment in southern Gray County, Kan. The company will drill its #1-7C Latta in Section 7-29s-28w about four miles south-southeast of Montezuma. There is no production in the township. The closest production is almost nine miles north-northwest, where #1-33 Wilber Ullom in Ullom Field tested for 110 bbl. of oil a day from St. Louis from 5,068-72 ft.

The state of Kansas issued a permit to Roadrunner Energy Inc., Tulsa, Okla., for #1 Fulsom wildcat in undrilled Section 2-35s-7e on the southeastern salient of the Nemaha Uplift in southeastern Cowley County. The well, about nine miles southwest of Cedar Vale, is scheduled to test Oswego, Mississippian and Arbuckle to 3,300 ft. The nearest production is a mile east in Olsen Field, which was discovered in the early 1920s. The field has produced 559,000 bbl. of oil from Kansas City, which includes Oswego, Mississippian and one Arbuckle well. The field produced 900 bbl. of oil last August.

Two discoveries met recent exploration efforts by Seeco Inc., a unit of Southwestern Energy, Houston, in the Fayetteville shale on the Arkansas side of the Arkoma Basin. The #1-10-H Baker went onstream flowing 2.19 million cu. ft. of gas a day in Section 10-10n-14w in Van Buren County. Production came from a horizontal section in the 5,325-ft. well. True vertical depth was 2,325 ft. That well is three miles east of the company's #1-7-H Kling in Section 7-10n-14w, which tested at 1.32 million cu. ft. of gas a day. The wells are three and six miles east of the closest production in Seeco's Scotland Field.

Hallwood Petroleum LLC, Dallas, completed a discovery at a remote location in the eastern Arkoma Basin. The #1-7-H Dismang is in Section 7-6n-9w about 7.5 miles northwest of Beebe in southwestern White County, Ark. The company did not disclose test information for the well, which was originally scheduled as an 8,500-ft. vertical Fayetteville test and later amended to an 11,000-ft. horizontal well. The nearest production is 14 miles north-northwest in Piney Creek Field, a new Moorefield and Fayetteville shale field. That well flowed 705,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Moorefield from 5,487 to 5,564 ft. and 432,000 cu. ft. of gas a day in a follow-up test from Fayetteville perforations from 5,400 to 6,337 ft. in a horizontal section.

Addison, Okla.'s Capital Programs Co. Inc. will test Pennsylvanian, Mississippian, Wilcox and Arbuckle formations to 3,750 ft. about three miles northwest of Skedee in Pawnee County in northeastern Oklahoma. The #1 Quintin, in Section 2-22n-5e, is within 1.25 miles of Skedee Northwest Field, which produces from Mississippian and Wilcox.

The #1-29 Patricia discovery by Cimarex Energy Co., Denver, flowed a combined 5.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day from two Pennsylvanian zones in Section 29-11n-19w, about two miles southeast of Canute in Washita County, Okla. The 16,145-ft. well tested for 1.28 million cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water a day from Atoka from 15,820 to 15,931 ft., 225,000 cu. ft. of gas and one bbl. of water from Atoka from 14,930-48 ft. and 4.05 million cu. ft. of gas a day with no water from Des Moines from 14,314-36 ft. Cimarex tested all three zones on an 8/64-in. choke with 7,350 psi, 1,300 psi and 800 psi of flowing tubing pressure, respectively. The company received state permission to commingle production. Existing production from Des Moines and Granite Wash is about a mile north on the southeastern flank of Canute North Field; the nearest production from Atoka is two miles north.

Alpine Inc., Edmond, Okla., continued an exploration program in southeastern Oklahoma with its #1-19 Musket wildcat about 15 miles southeast of Clayton in Section 19-1s-21e in eastern Pushmataha County. The well will look at Jackfork to 8,000 ft. No previous wells have been drilled in the township, and the closest production is in Potato Hills Field some 15 miles north-northwest. The closest dry hole is three miles away.

A discovery resulted when Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., drilled its #2 Fender State Unit wildcat 25 miles northwest of Tatum in northwestern Lea County, N.M. The well, in Section 17-10s-32e, tested flowing 268,000 cu. ft. of gas and nine bbl. of water a day from acidized and fractured perforations between 10,438-68 ft. in Strawn and from 10,623 and 10,796 ft. in Atoka after the company drilled to 11,454 ft. Yates tested the well through a 45/64-in. choke with 2,300 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The nearest production comes from a Yates Morrow discovery 1.66 miles northeast.

Morrow is the target for a Lea County, N.M., wildcat planned by Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City. The #1 Dinwiddie will reach for 15,800 ft. about eight miles east of Jal in Section 23-25s-35e in the New Mexico portion of the Delaware Basin. Some two miles north-northwest, the nearest production comes from the single producing well in Humphreys Hill Field. That Morrow well, #1 Reno Com, tested for 3.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day from perforations between 15,246 and 15,398 ft. Since late 1988, the well has produced 760.1 million cu. ft. of gas, 1,273 bbl. of condensate and 9,532 bbl. of water.

Rosetta Resources Operating LP, Houston, will drill #1 Price Ranch to 7,000 ft. on the Cimarron Uplift in western Sherman County, Texas (RRC 10). Targets for the wildcat, about nine miles southeast of Stratford in Section 56, Block 2-B, GH&H Survey, A-453, are Douglas, Tonkawa, Marmaton and Morrow formations. Two greater Hugoton Field wells already have produced 3.73 billion cu. ft. of gas from Permian formations at approximately 3,200 ft. since 1947. The closest production from Precambrian is 4.5 miles southwest where the Lautz Field discovery well pumped 13 bbl. of oil, 45,000 cu. ft. of gas and 77 bbl. of water a day from Lansing from 3,437-67 ft.

Forth Worth-based Range Production Co. staked a 12,500-ft. wildcat in its exploration and development program about 16 miles northwest of Miami in Roberts County, Texas (RRC 10). The #308A R.D. Mills, in Clay CSL Survey, A-50, will evaluate Granite Wash at 8,000 ft., Atoka at 8,900 ft. and Upper Morrow at 9,200 ft. as well as Mississippian and Hunton. The wildcat offsets wells to the west and southeast in Cree-Flowers Field that produce from Brown Dolomite, Douglas and Heebner to 6,150 ft.

The PetroGlobe Energy USA Ltd. subsidiary of PetroGlobe Inc., Calgary, will bring its first Palo Duro Basin wildcat into production in southeastern Floyd County, Texas (RRC 8A). The #1077 McIntosh in Section 77, Block 1, AB&M Survey, A-44, registered an absolute open flow of 3.3 million cu. ft. of gas with 150 bbl. of oil a day during production tests from Pennsylvanian Shale. PetroGlobe drilled the well to 9,900 ft. about 10 miles east of Floydada. The well also encountered shows in Granite Wash. This is the farthest southeast the company has drilled to date in its program in the emerging Pennsylvanian Bend shale play. The company and its partners control some 100,000 gross acres in the area.

A Gaines County, Texas, (RRC 8A) wildcat apparently will look for San Andres oil to 6,000 ft. in Section 24, Block C43, PSL Survey, A-798, more than five miles east of Seminole in the Midland Basin. XOG Operating LLC, Midland, Texas, will drill #1 Hinkley less than a mile south-southeast of the closest former production from Seminole Field. There, #1099 Lewis tested for 41,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Yates in 1986. The nearest San Andres production is in the same field two miles east-southeast. There a 5,525-ft. well drilled in 1964 tested for 62 bbl. of oil a day.

Quicksilver Resources Inc., Fort Worth, plans two horizontal Barnett Shale wildcats more than three miles west of Glen Rose in central Somervell County, Texas (RRC 7B). Both #1H and #2H Rosie are in Galveston County School Land Survey, A-37, in the Fort Worth Basin. The #1H was permitted to 6,400 ft. and neighboring #2H will reach 200 feet farther. The nearest Barnett production is more than four miles northwest in Hood County, where #11H Bratten Ranch tested for 916,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from acidized and fractured Barnett.

A horizontal wildcat will reach for 5,000 ft. on an Endeavor Energy Resources LP, Midland, Texas, lease 3.5 miles south of Gustine in southeastern Comanche County, Texas (RRC 7B). The company will drill #1H BCS in Elisha J. Cropper Survey, A-148, on the Bend Arch, but the bottomhole location will be in adjacent Isham G. Belcher Survey, A-70. More than 1.25 miles west-southwest, two recent wells have detected gas shows in the Barnett shale, which is about 130-ft. thick at that location. A host of additional Barnett shale wells are being drilled in the area, and at least one operator plans 40 shale wells if the first few prove up the prospect.

Swartz Oil Co., San Angelo, Texas, apparently will target Canyon at 3,000 ft. at a wildcat in eastern Edwards County, Texas (RRC 1). The #2 Vernor will be drilled in Section 121, Block P 1/2, William M. Skinner Survey, A-3386, about five miles west of the Real County line. The well is an offset to #1 Vernor immediately north-northeast in the same section. That well was abandoned in 1977. Swartz tried to reenter the 6,000-ft. well last September, but the attempt was not successful. The Swartz wells are almost four miles south-southwest of #1 L. Harris 16, which tested for 419,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Pennsylvanian perforations from 4,008-46 ft. in Nueces Field. That well never came online.
