1 A couple of discoveries resulted from wildcats drilled in western Rooks County, Kan., on the northwestern end of the Central Kansas Uplift. Bach Oil Production, Alma, Neb., tested its #1 Mary Sue in Section 27-7s-20w in Lansing A, Lansing C and Lansing F from 3,218 to 3,302 ft. for 90 bbl. of oil a day. The well was designated the opener for Cocinera Northeast Field. Some 2.5 miles west-northwest, Palomino Petroleum Inc., Newton, Kan., was running production tests of its #1 LaBarge discovery in Section 20-7s-20w. A drillstem test in Lansing recovered 860 ft. of gas, 400 ft. of free oil and 460 ft. of 65% oil-cut mud.



2 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, tested 15.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 97 bbl. of condensate a day from its #25-1 GPCU discovery on the Hugoton Embayment in Section 26-33s-39w, about eight miles west-southwest of the town of Hugoton. The well produced 456.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 2,899 bbl. of condensate from Upper Morrow during September, its first full month onstream. The closest Morrow well is 0.75-mile northwest.



3 A Fayetteville shale discovery flowed 750,000 cu. ft. of gas a day for Tepee Petroleum Inc., Houston. The #1-33H Alta-Ledbetter in Section 33-8n-15w, Conway County, is about 10 miles northeast of Morrilton, Ark. The well produced from a horizontal leg drilled southeast to 8,000 ft. (5,600 ft. true vertical depth), IHS Inc. reports. The company also drilled #1-26H Alta-Clark 2.25 miles northeast and staked a location for #1-28H Alta-Gray a mile north-northeast of its discovery well.



4 XTO Energy Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, plans a wildcat, #1-5 Ryan, in Section 5-5n-26w a mile south of the town of Magazine in southern Logan County, Ark. The company will evaluate Third Thrusted Borum. The planned well is two miles from two wells on the western flank of Waveland Field. It also is northwest of #1-9 Deltic Timber Co. in Section 9 of the same township. That 2005 well tested 720,000 cu. ft. of gas a day through treated perforations in Lower Borum.



5 An Oklahoma Panhandle workover resulted in an Atoka gas recovery that tested on an open choke for 4.17 million cu. ft. of gas with six bbl. of oil and two bbl. of water a day from perforations between 6,040-46 ft. after acid and fracture treatments. The #1 34 Jean Ann is in Section 34-6n-16ecm in northeastern Texas County. Operator EOG Resources Inc., Houston, completed the well in June for 197,000 cu. ft. of gas and 33 bbl. of water a day from Lower Morrow sand. According to IHS Inc., more than 7,600 tests and workovers have been conducted in the county, but only 30 have produced from Atoka. The closest Atoka production is two miles southwest in Dague South Field, where #4-5 Lolmaugh tested 1.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day on a 16/64-in. choke. That well produced 377 million cu. ft. of gas and 120 bbl. of oil during its seven years online.



6 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, tested Lower Cunningham for 2.13 million cu. ft. of gas and 88 bbl. of water a day at its #1-17 Oak Creek discovery well in the southern Anadarko Basin of Oklahoma. The discovery, in Section 17-8n-16w in southern Washita County, reached total depth at 23,400 ft. in Hunton but produced from four Lower Cunningham intervals between 17,072 and 18,010 ft. The company tested the well on a 15/64-in. choke with 1,417 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Chesapeake also tested Chester, Sycamore and Woodford, and those zones were isolated by bridge plugs, according to IHS Inc.



7 A Strawn and Atoka wildcat tested 268,000 cu. ft. of gas and nine bbl. of water a day after acidizing and fracturing by Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M. The #2 Fender State Unit in Section 17-10s-32e is about 25 miles northwest of Tatum in northwestern Lea County, N.M. The discovery tested through a 45/64-in. choke with 2,300 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 10,438-68 ft. in Strawn and 10,623 and 10,796 ft. in Atoka. The nearest production comes from a Yates workover 1.33 miles northeast. There, #1 Fender State Unit tested 312,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from perforations between 11,244-56 ft. in Morrow.



8 Midland, Texas-based Parallel Petroleum Corp. permitted a pair of wildcats more than five miles southwest of Hope in western Eddy County, N.M. The #1 Hope Unit 1821-16 State and #2 Hope Unit 1821-15 State will be drilled from surface locations only a few feet apart in Section 16-18s-21e to proposed depths of 8,758 ft. and 8,986 ft., respectively. The closest production is 3.67 miles southeast in Four Mile Draw Southwest Field, where #1H Jezebel State Com tested last August for 537,000 cu. ft. of gas and 20 bbl. of water a day from an acidized and fractured openhole interval between 4,587 and 8,040 ft. True vertical depth of the horizontal well was 4,375 ft.



9 H&L Operating Co. LLP, Amarillo, Texas, scheduled a wildcat well 2.5 miles southeast of Texhoma, Texas, in northern Sherman County (RRC 10). The #1075 Ralph Renner will drill to 7,100 ft. in Section 75, Block 1-C, GH&H Survey, A-75, to evaluate Des Moines and Upper and Lower Morrow zones, according to IHS Inc. Production in the immediate area comes from Permian intervals shallower than 3,000 ft. in the Texas portion of Hugoton Field, but the well is a mile southwest of Morrow production in Harland Field. The closest well in that field tested 2.24 million cu. ft. of gas a day through treated Morrow perforations between 6,777-83 ft.



10 An exploratory sidetrack reached 16,000 ft. in the northwestern Grayson County, Texas, (RRC 9) portion of the Sherman Basin after Atoka Operating Inc., Dallas, ran into drilling problems in the original wellbore at 14,203 ft. The #1 Godwin is about a half-mile east of the Cooke County boundary in Section 57, Thomas Toby Survey, A-1513, about eight miles northeast of Callisburg. The nearest production is a third-mile southwest in the same section where #2 Blair in Sparkler Field produced a cumulative 276,887 bbl. of oil and 362.1 million cu. ft. of gas between 1976 and November 2006 from Pennsylvanian Handy between 10,658 and 10,718 ft. Some 1.66-miles west-southwest of the Atoka well, the company produces from Oil Creek from 13,381 to 13,450 ft. at its #1 Winger-Odom.



11 A northeastern Stonewall County, Texas, (RRC 7B) wildcat will try to reestablish production in the abandoned Kiowa Peak Southeast Field. Schalk Oil Co., Wichita Falls, Texas, will drill #1 Barrow to 6,000 ft. in Richard Haley Survey, A-74, about 2.5 miles west of the Haskell County boundary. Outside of the field, the nearest production is from #1 Buford E. Tatum et al., the single well in Sandy Crossing Field a half-mile east-southeast. That 1960 well tested an initial potential of 289 bbl. of oil a day from Bend Conglomerate between 5,771-78 ft.



12 Petro 2000 Exploration Co., Zephyr, Texas, will drill its fifth wildcat on the Bend Arch in southeastern Brown County, Texas, (RRC 7B) about 1.5 miles southeast of its head offices. The #1 King is scheduled to 2,000 ft. in the James B. Chambers Survey, A-207, less that a mile from the Mills County boundary. The company received permits for four wells in the area in 2005 but released few details on the three it drilled. The closest production comes from #3 O'Bryan some 3.67 miles south-southwest of Petro 2000's latest location. That 1997 well tested 188,000 cu. ft. of gas from acidized Marble Falls perforations from 1,060-66 ft.



13 The #111R Roberts will evaluate Spraberry at around 4,200 ft. on its way to 5,500 ft. in Section 11, Block 2, T&NO Survey, A-245, about eight miles south of Post in southwestern Garza County, Texas (RRC 8A). Wichita Falls, Texas-based 3-T Exploration Inc. is drilling the well as a replacement for its #111 Roberts in the same section, but that well was junked and abandoned last November at 3,900 ft. About two miles south, abandoned Teas East Field produced 244,541 bbl. of oil, 36.1 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 325,478 bbl. of water between 1958 and 1991.



14 Energy From Texas LP, Dallas, completed a discovery from Cisco sand in Section 9, Block 5, H&TC Survey, A-8597. The #1R Teague 9 in northwestern Tom Green County, Texas, (RRC 7C) tested 521,000 cu. ft. of gas and four bbl. of condensate a day from perforations between 6,150-60 ft. The company tested the well in an 8/64-in. choke with 1,740 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well is a third-mile north of the Irion County boundary and more than 15 miles northwest of San Angelo.



15 Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, brought home a discovery flowing 492,000 cu. ft. of gas and 11 bbl. of water a day from Ellenburger perforations between 8,700 and 8,800 ft. The company tested its #1 Mayfield E in Section 200 CCSD&RGNG RR Co. Survey, A-2781, in northwestern Edwards County, Texas, (RRC 1) through a 48/64-in. choke with 455 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The 9,045-ft. well is more than 20 miles northwest of Rocksprings and two miles northeast of another Ellenburger discovery by Newfield completed last August. That well, #1 Mayfield A, tested flowing 963,000 cu. ft. of gas and eight bbl. of water a day.



16 A Val Verde Basin test was permitted in Val Verde County, Texas, (RRC 1) for Echo Production Inc., Graham, Texas. The #1 Bledsoe-Dobbins Unit is a horizontal wildcat planned to 13,800 ft., apparently to Ellenburger, in Section 1, Block G, GWT&P RR Co Survey, A-933, about 30 miles southwest of Sonora. The well will reach bottom a quarter-mile east under Section 2. The permit says the company will drill the horizontal section only if the vertical portion of the well is not successful. There is no Ellenburger production in the area.
