1 Ritchie Exploration Inc., Wichita, Kan., plans a 4,225-ft. wildcat about 4.5 miles south of Lenora, Kan., in northwestern Graham County. The #1 David Trust 17A is in Section 17-6s-24w and will reach the Arbuckle with principal objectives in the Lansing-Kansas City group. Indiana Field, a one-well pool that produced more than 59,000 bbl. of oil since 1976, is one mile north-northwest. Hoosier Field is three miles southeast. This two-well Lansing-Kansas City accumulation opened in 1992 and produced 52,350 bbl. of oil before it was abandoned in 2003.
2 National Gulf Production Inc., Giddings, Texas, will drill a wildcat in central Trego County some eight miles south-southeast of WaKeeney, Kan. The #1 CBN is in Section 25-13s-23w and will reach 4,000 ft. The prospect is four miles southwest of Holland Northwest Field, which produced 57,500 bbl. of crude from two Lansing-Kansas City wells at about 3,850 ft. between 1978 and 1990.
3 Hornibrook Oil & Gas Operating Co., Little Rock, Ark., plans two 1,900-ft. wildcats on the Ozark Uplift about 13 miles southeast of Fayetteville in western Washington County, Ark. The #1-16 Baker is in Section 16-14n-28w and #1-17 Cookie Shelton is 0.25 mile west in Section 17 of the same township. The area is within one mile southeast of Hazel Valley Field. Discovered in 1979, this field has produced 747 million cu. ft. of gas from Upper Devonian Sylamore sand at depths ranging from 400 to 1,100 ft. Now inactive, Brentwood Field about five miles west-southwest. This field was discovered in 1959 and produced 1.83 billion cu. ft. of gas before it was abandoned in 1990.
4 Seeco Inc., a unit of Southwestern Energy, Houston, plans an 8,500-ft. wildcat about three miles south of Blue Mountain in southern Logan County, Ark. The #1-24 Hoffman is in Section 24-5n-26w targeting formations through the Borum. It is 2.25 miles south of Waveland Field, which produces from Basham, Turner and various Borum zones. As of March 2007, Waveland Field had cumulative gas production of 46.3 billion cu. ft., reports IHS Inc.
5 Cholla Petroleum Inc., Dallas, will drill #1-14 Waldron in Section 14-3n-30w about two miles west of Waldron in Scott County, Ark. The 7,999-ft. test will reach Lower Hartford. It is five miles south of Mansfield Field, which was discovered in 1902 and has produced 79.2 billion cu. ft. of gas from Pennsylvanian pays—primarily Hartford and shallower Mansfield sand and a secondary pay in Critchfield.
6?BP America Production Co., U.K., completed a Morrow discovery in a lightly drilled area about four miles north of Mountain View, Okla., in southern Anadarko Basin. The #1-14 Pritchard is in Section 14-8n-15w in southeastern Washita County. The well initially flowed 2.03 million cu. ft. of gas and 30 bbl. of water a day. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 628 psi on a 40/64-in. choke. In 1980, #1-19 Winter Livestock was tested two miles southeast. Although it flowed 2.01 million cu. ft. of gas daily, it was abandoned without producing.
7 Ward Petroleum Corp., Enid, Okla., completed #1-19 Young in Section 19-3n-7w, southern Grady County, Okla., as a discovery. The well initially flowed 8.63 million cu. ft. of gas and 110 bbl. of water a day from Springer with a flowing tubing pressure of 6,778 psi. Additional information is currently unavailable. The site is 0.5 mile southwest of an abandoned, noncommercial well on the southwestern boundary of Rush Springs Southwest Field, which has produced a cumulative 87.1 billion cu. ft. of gas and 1.2 million bbl. of oil and condensate since its discovery in 1954.
8 Antero Resources Corp., Denver, completed three horizontal Woodford shale producers in Pittsburg County in southeastern Oklahoma about 1.5 miles north of McAlester. The #20-1H Silva is in Section 20-6n-15e, and was tested flowing 5.3 million cu. ft. of gas with 70 bbl. of water a day on a 64/64-in. choke with flowing tubing pressure gauged at 900 psi. Less than one mile east, the operator’s #21-1H Silva in Section 21-6n-15e, flowed 1.16 million cu. ft. of gas and 26 bbl. of water a day during preliminary tests. Antero’s third producer is about two miles northwest in Section 8-6n-15e. The #8-1H O’Neal was tested through perforations between 8,870 and 9,542 ft. flowing at a daily rate of 950,000 cu. ft. of gas and 38 bbl. of water.
9 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., plans a 10,650-ft. wildcat for New Mexico’s Eddy County more than 20 miles west of Carlsbad, reports IHS Inc. It will drill #1 Recif Federal State Unit in Section 7-23s-23e, targeting Morrow. In 1964, #1 Wagontire Unit was drilled and abandoned 1.67 miles southeast. It was reentered in the early 1970s and produced 11.68 million cu. ft. of gas as part of Eddy Field between 1972 and 1974. Yates also plans #1 Leonardo BLK Federal Com almost 15 miles southwest of Loving, also in Eddy County. The well is in Section 28-25s-27e. Recently opened Hay Hollow West Field is 1.5 miles north-northwest. There, #1 Hayhurst 16 State was tested flowing 1.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 8 bbl. of 61.7-gravity condensate a day with flowing tubing pressure gauged at 1,132 psi on a 23/64-in. choke.
10 Unit Petroleum Co., Tulsa, plans an Anadarko Basin wildcat six miles northwest of Miami in Roberts County (RRC 10), Texas. The #1 Rankin is in Section 21, Block B-1, H & GN Survey, A-131, and will evaluate Brown Dolomite, Granite Wash and Morrow, along with Upper Mississippian strata, to a depth of 10,800 ft. The Mendota Northwest/Saint Clair producing region is about two miles north-northeast. Also, the western flank of Red Deer Creek Field, which produces from Des Moines Granite Wash, is three miles east-southeast.
11 Atoka Operating Inc., a subsidiary of H&S Production Inc., Dallas, plans a wildcat in the Sherman Basin in north Texas’ Grayson County (RRC 9), some two miles from Sherman. It will drill #1 Gray Unit in the Charles Lyneburg Survey, A-730. If successful, this could extend Oil Creek production in White Mountain Field, which 1.67 miles southeast.
12 Lampasas Oil Corp., Dripping Springs, Texas, plans a 4,500-ft. wildcat in western Lampasas County (RRC 7B), Texas, about three miles southwest of Lometa. It will drill #1 John Davis on the northeastern flank of the Llano Uplift in the G. McWilliams Survey, A-502 (some maps may show Milton Yates Survey, A-761). To date, there is only one commercially producing well completed in Lampasas County. The #1 Gotcher, more than 30 miles east-southeast, opened Toga Field in early 2006 with an initial daily potential of 193,000 cu. ft. of gas from Cisco. During May of 2006, the well yielded 580,000 cu. ft. of gas with no additional recovery reported.
13 Fasken Oil & Ranch Ltd., Midland, Texas, completed #1 Taylor 26 as a discovery in southwestern Terry County (RRC 8A), about 0.5 mile east of the Yoakum County line. The well flowed 218 bbl. of 38.3-gravity oil and 16,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Silurian at 13,184-97 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 300 psi on an 8/64-in. choke. The well is in Section 26, Block DD, John H. Gibson Survey, A-5116. The site is surrounded by shallow San Andres oil recovery in Reeves Field. The only Silurian production in the area is over 1.5 miles north-northeast in one-well Crown Field, which was completed in 1981 and produced a total of 677 bbl. of oil and 4,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas during just five months onstream.
14 Paragon Corp., Abilene, Texas, plans a 7,000-ft. wildcat in southeastern Coke County (RRC 7), Texas. The #1 Blair Deep is in Section 1, GC & SF Survey, A-174, about seven miles southwest of Bronte. Nearest production is 2.5 miles west-southwest in one-well Tennyson Field. Completed in 1948, this well has recovered a cumulative 11,471 bbl. of crude, reports IHS Inc.
15 Southwestern Energy Co., Houston, completed a western Delaware Basin discovery in the abandoned COV Field area in northeastern Culberson County (RRC 8), Texas. The #701 Dela Minerals 3 State was tested flowing 450,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Morrow. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 4,218 psi on a 32/64-in. choke. The well is in Section 7, Block 114, PSL (C.J. Cochran) Survey, A-404, over 20 miles southwest of Orla.
16 Great Western Drilling Co., Midland, Texas, plans a wildcat about 25 miles east of Fort Stockton in eastern Pecos County (RRC 8), Texas. The #2 University 19-20 will be drilled to 7,000 ft. in Section 20, Block 19, University Lands Survey. Tunis Creek Field is 0.66 mile northeast. Opened in 1964, this field has yielded 4.27 million bbl. of oil, 4.37 billion cu. ft. of gas and 8.97 million bbl. of water from Wichita-Albany, Canyon, Devonian and Silurian.
