Shell has appointed three new chief scientists: Dirk Smit (left), vice president of Exploration Technologies, will be chief scientist for Geophysics; John Karanikas (top right), chief subsurface engineer in Unconventional Oil, will be chief scientist for Reservoir Engineering; and Vianney Koelman (bottom right), team leader of In-Well Technology, will be chief scientist for Petrophysics.
