New Fortress Energy (NFE) resumed production at its Fast LNG 1 offshore platform after completing a scheduled 10-day maintenance outage, the company said Aug. 19.
On Aug. 9, New Fortress loaded the first LNG cargo from Fast LNG 1, located off the east coast of Mexico about 275 miles from the southern tip of Texas. After hitting the milestone, the executives planned to shut down operations at the site to make any necessary repairs or adjustments.
The FLNG1 site will now ramp up and hit full production by September, company officials reported. The platform is a modular LNG liquefication and export facility built on older offshore foundations. The U.S. Department of Energy has permitted the facility to take in 430 MMcf/d of natural gas to export to countries that have a free-trade agreement with the U.S.
The ship Energos Princess took on the first LNG cargo. According to initial reports, the tanker was due to enter the Panama Canal and deliver LNG to the northwestern coast of Mexico. However, the ship traffic site MarineTraffic.com reported the tanker had instead headed for Portland Bight in Jamaica.
