Woodside Energy’s board of directors has appointed Anthony (Tony) O’Neill as an independent non-executive director and member of the audit & risk, sustainability and nominations & governance committee, effective June 3.
O’Neill holds experience in the global mining industry and started his career as an engineer in Australian nickel mines.
He worked for British mining company Anglo American as group executive director of technical and sustainability and oversaw the world’s first in-field deployment of hydrogen-powered mining trucks, retiring in December 2022.
O’Neill has a bachelor of applied science (mining technology) from Curtin University and an MBA from the University of Melbourne. O’Neill is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
O’Neill will be up for election as a nonexecutive director at Woodside’s annual general meeting in April 2025.
